Default PDK owners, how many have no experienced "kickdown" i.e page 176

friend of mine bought his 997.2PDK the same day i bought my 997.2PDK (like 45 days ago) and did not even know about this feature till i told him (after he had said "my car just doesnt feel fast (997.2C2Scab)")

after telling him that the pedal does extend past "full throttle" and makes a click to signify in "kickdown" mode.. he went out (safely) and tried it to report back "holy crap"

so who else with the PDK trans has not discovered "kickdown" or as i call it "clicking the gas" ???

*i am not suggesting to go out and drive like a jacka$$ but, if/when/where/who/why the time is right and you have plenty of safe room to accelerate without getting a ticket or breaking any laws... to possibly/maybe try the "kickdown" on your 997.2PDK.

only thing that bothers me is when in kickdown it automatically shifts for you, but the second you un click the pedal it does not.. so you usually have to shift immediately after... i kinda wish when engaging "kickdown" it auto selected "auto" for 8 seconds after clicking to put you in the right gear after letting off the gas, similar to how when overriding D->M it keeps it in M 8 seconds before swapping back to D.

Tried mine for the first time the other day on an on ramp to the highway.

Holy S**t! Could not believe it! Have to try it again with the sport button on.

It's definitely not something you want to do next a cop at at a stoplight.

Interesting, when I have done it in sport, I thought it was overrevving because it didn't seem to shift automatically when it revved so quickly..I thought there was something wrong with the system.
I assumed it always shifts for you, even in manual, sport to prevent overrevving.

I did it making a two-car pass on Skyline Drive last weekend - shockingly fast. Good stuff.

ALL automatics have a kickdown feature and have had it for several decades...

Absolutely, that was one of the better ways to dive a Tiptronic.

I don't think any have been nearly so thrilling though - although I don't have several decades of history to back it up, just a handfull.

Seriously, I have never had a car where everything seemed to happen so fast. With MTs, it seems more obvious and discontinuous. And a typical AT; there's always the kickdown and then a whole series of "events" before anything gets going - plenty of time to anticipate the entire thing.

Whereas this car, the response to a nudge with the spurs is about as immediate as possible. I'm waiting for feedback and the only feedback is all the commotion from the tires and engine and suddenly the car is really moving. The delivery of power and acceleration is deceptively smooth.

I guess it takes some getting used to. And I really need to get to the track next spring to sort this thing out.

Agreed. However, PDK seems to go straight to the right gear - even if you are in manual mode. You could be pottering along in 6th and it will go straight to 3rd for that instant aceleration. Its very useful on the fwy when you need to take a gap and escape. I have tried it and it works beautifully

Was driving a 2009 PDK Cab the other day. You can also press and hold the down shift paddle and it quickly drops to 3rd gear. Nice.

I'm certain you mean 'pull up the shift paddle'...

ive never owned an Auto prior to PDK so i didnt know... i vowed long ago i would never own an auto sportscar... and i didn't like PDK at first, but after a few test drives i changed my mind and got one.. i was excited when they said panamera was only PDK for our market and even more excited to hear cayenne will get PDK soon..

that being said i still HATE tiptronic with a passion.. i just dont get what they were thinking when making tiptronic, everytime ive driven a tip it just doesnt do anything i want it to do, whereas the PDK must have ESP because its always one step ahead of me..
