Default 997.1 Non S with Sport Chrono vs 997.1 S

I want to compare the S without Sport Chrono Pkg with the non S with Sport Chrono Pkg. Both cars have Tiptronic S transmission. Not sure whether it's my imagination, the non S in sport mode feel about the same as the S in terms of initial acceleration. Can it be true? I know for the 997.2, the Sport Chrono Pkg does make a difference in terms of acceleration. Can the non S in sport mode be the same as the S in terms of initial pickup? I am not talking 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h), but more like say 0-40 mph (0-60 km/h).

What do you guys think?

Sport Chrono makes no difference in acceleration in manual transmission cars (997.1 or 997.2). It does have a minor impact with Tiptronic cars (shifts higher) and a significant impact on PDK cars. It doesn't actually add power in any normally-aspirated car, though, so you're still dealing with the same horsepower and torque. Any improvements are only a consequence of more aggressive shifting.

The car becomes more responsive with the sport chrono package, brakes and throtle response Is greatly improved and suspension if it has a PASM.
BUT, and a big but the carrera S still has more power.

Braking is not changed at all with a sport chrono.

Suspension adjustment is part of PASM, not sport chrono. Any PASM-equipped car has the option of sport or normal suspension whether it has a sport chrono or not.

Sport Chrono package doesn't have any effect on the brakes. And you can switch PASM to sport mode without Sport Chrono package.

I would not buy a Tiptronic 997.1 without Sports Chrono -- it makes all the difference in the world IMHO

I would not buy a 997.1 tiptronic....period...period ,,,period. Get a 6-speed to really or enjoy the car, or step up if you can and get an '09 or newer. With the new PDK out, that car (991.1 tip) is already a dinosaur.

I thought I remember reading that while in sport mode if you abruptly lift off the gas, the car would pre-load the brakes (bringing the pads into light contact with the surface of the rotors) to prepare for hard braking.

I am going to look for the DVD... brake lines are prefill to the limit when in sport mode...

I can tell the difference in my car as well. I am not saying that it brakes in shorter distance, they are just more responsive.

Or is the pre-loading just part of the PSM?

No, that's something the 4, targa, and turbo cars do if they've got PSM. They do it in sport or in normal mode. It's part of the "all-wheel PSM" package. No C2 or C2S has this feature, no matter what options are installed. (997.1, dunno about 997.2). If you think you feel a difference in braking between sport and normal mode it's placebo.

Details on page 30 of the 997.1 product brochure which is helpfully mirrored on coochas' site:
The all-wheel PSM has two additional functions not featured in the rear-wheel drive version: electronic brake prefill and all-wheel brake assist.

Ah, I knew I read that in my manual, I just didn't remember if it was related to the "Sport" button of the PSM. Thanks for the clarification. I wonder why the C2(S) doesn't get the treatment as well...

So does the fact that with Tip the change in shift map makes the car get to say 40 mph faster? In theory, should it not? I do appreciate that it's the same HP and Torque with or without SC.

my 6 speed 997.1 had sport chrono and it felt good, but id rather have an S.. the setting functions of sport chrono are cool but id still rather have S..

it holds the gas slightly after u let off the gas so shifts are smoother tho..
