Hey Folks,
Think I need to replace the battery on my 997 Turbo. Just had it jumped, drove for about 1/2 hr. then parked it in the garage, turned it off and tested with a re-crank.. Electrical, tick, tick, tick with no turnover.
Which sucks cause I have one of those Porsche battery charger/tenures..
My question is, where can I get a replacement battery besides the stealer? Last time my battery went down I went to Pep Boys and the battery they had for 997 turbo was about 1.5 times the size of the OEM battery and didn't fit in the compartment..
Do I have any options besides the outrageously overpriced OEM batt?

B-Line,
Any reputable brand size DIN 75 battery will work. I have used Varta DIN 80 in my previous 996 and was excellent. From memory the 996 battery clamp could be moved to the accomodate the next two sizes with extra bolt holes. The 997 should be similar.

Interstate, I forget the #, several sizes fit .My 06 battery was replaced at the dealer with an interstate. You nee to modify the vent connector for proper venting.

Modification is a stretch...you just need to put the tube they give you over the nipple.
Interstate is smaller and lighter...
Fwiw, Mine died almost 4 years to the day..and it's used on a regular basis. mostly all year long

Driving for 1/2 hour is not long enough to properly charge a **dead** battery.

Before buying a new battery I would strongly recommend putting your battery on a trickle charger for a day or two to get it up to 100% charge, and then test it out. Almost the exact same thing happened with my M5 after I let it sit for too long in the summer. I jump started it, drove around for a day and parked it. The next day nothing- click, click, click. I put it on a trickle charger and once it showed 100% charge- I have been good since then.

Kind of obvious I know, but thought I would put it out there anyway. Good luck.

Porsche (like all auto manufacturers) doesn't make their own batteries, most are made by Exide Battery Company. Therefore, any battery with decent cranking amps that fits in the space will work just fine.
Unless you must have a Porsche sticker on the battery, look elsewhere.
It seems like 4 years is about the maximum for most batteries. If a battery
hesitates even one time, I typically get rid of it and put in a new one.
It is a lot easier and less expensive than being stuck at a rest stop in the
middle of Kansas.

As above. All brands of car batteries made in the USA are supplied be either Exide or Johnson Controls.

How old is your battery? The symptoms you describe point to 1 or2 bad cells. Interstate or Duralast are excellent replacements.
