Not sure if you remember the thread I started comparing the 997.1 to 997.2 steering and handling. Not sure if someone told me in that thread or 997.1 v. 997.2 thread to TURN OFF THE PSM.
Holy Cow, that makes a WORLD of difference. So much more fun. Amazing. I had to let out a loud long YEEEEEHAAAAA, WOOOHOOOOO as I was plowing through the twistys near my home. I did them once with the PSM on and SPORT buttons on. I have an '06 C2S Cab. I was so impressed with how fast that I could take a turn then accellerate so quickly out of it. It was impressive and somewhat of a workout but not so much fun.
Then when it was getting really boring because I was stuck behind a car, I decided to turn around and go the other way with the PSM off. My god what a difference. You guys if you haven't tried a deserted twisty coastal, canyon or mountain road with PSM off, you must try it.
I am glad that the sales guy never let me drive on the twistys and never asked me to turn the PSM off. If he had I would have surely purchased a new 997.2. This way I saved myself a lot of money. Now I will wait for the 998 and no matter how much more technology they put in the car, I can alwasy hit the PSM button.

Most of today's "911" drivers will never push them to the point that the PSM will kick in. As I understand it, if you have it off and resort to hitting the brakes (and the ABS kicks in) the PSM will come back on,--right?

^ At mine, the hot lap cars were Turbos, bone stock, and nothing disabled.
I've heard that in the past some lucky one wld get a ride in a GT3 w/ Hurley ... I'll bet the corkscrew wld be a real eye-opener.

I use to drive with PSM on even for track events; however, when I purschased the RS I quickly realized that I had to improve my skills since the RS only has ABS and traction control. My first track events were at venues with very generous off areas, so that I could learn and improve my skills without any catastrophic incidents. Subsequently, my skills have developed to the point that I feel confident driving at 8/10 at most tracks without the paralyzing fear of making a major mistake. Consequently, driving in my 996 is with PSM disengaged is the only way I drive.

Besides Russo it seems like most of guys haven't even tried it in the corners with PSM off. It is not dangerous if you go slower. Don't be worried. The reason I am so enthusiastic about it is that the driving dynamics were totally different, it was like a different car in the corners. Try it before you knock it or get so worried by the thought of it.
I must say that I am sure you can go at least 20% faster with the PSM on, but it is not the same car with it on in the corners. Speed isn't everything. There are faster cars than a Porsche, but I like the way a Porsche handles and it handles in a more natural state with PSM off. I will leave PSM ON most of the time, but sometimes it will be off for a more natural driving experience in the twisties.

One last thing, when I was in college I had an '82 Fiat Spider 2000. I doubt it had anything like PSM and that is the driving fun I remember from my youth. Since then I had only driven BMWs, SLK, etc. Nothing like a Porsche. My '06 Carrera S with the PSM off is more like my memory of the old '82 Fiat Spider 2000. I think that is why I like it. If I wasn't just playing around, but was racing with someone, I would never turn the PSM off as I am not that skilled of a driver.
