Default OT - I'm buying a non-Porsche

My wife's dad passed away this week so what better way to start the healing process than to get a new motor toy.

I had suggested some time ago to my wife that she might like a Mini. So, we went and test drove a Mini Convertible S and she loved it. I have to say it is a coooool little car. We went back to the dealer today and after looking at the cars on the lot and en route, we decided to spec a 2010.

The Mini on line configurator is significantly better than the Porsche one. I find that very amusing. Irene likes the Lazer Blue color. Yes, we both like those damn bright colors. For anyone in the Mini-know, we ordered the sport, convenience, cold weather and premium packages. The car will look just like the one shown below. I have to say that I am excited too even though it is not a p-car. Considering that this loaded car is less than 33K, I am even more excited!!!

I also just bought a used Featherlite trailer for taking my 986 to DEs. This winter I might fully convert the 986 to a Spec Boxster which will take it out of our streetable car pool. So,....when I'm at DE now with the Cayenne pulling the 986, Irene can drive the Mini instead of my 997TT he he he he.

If I wanted a fun car other than a Porsche, it would likely be a Mini. Congrats!

I drive a 09 Mini Cooper S as my daily driver. I have 11k miles on it and really enjoy it. 1 suggestion...DO NOT spend the money on the Hi-Fi option...save the $500 and plan to replace the stock speakers in the doors and add an amp. The stock stereo and the Hi Fi stereo are horrible.

Also do not go larger than 17" tires, try to stay with 16's if you can. My 17's with the stock suspension is sort of harsh and the 18's with a sport suspension are incredibly harsh.

Enjoy!

I think the 172 hp is enough for my wife! I did think about it though.

That's a sharp looking one Mike.
The 2010 is changing stereos to a Harmon Kardon so I'm hoping that will be a bit better. We opted for the 17" rims and non-sport suspension.
I'm glad you like your Mini,...seems like a pretty cool car.

Thanks Dave, sorry to hear about your father in law. I heard about the 2010 Harmon...what is the cost of the option? I re-did the audio in my Mini...it is rockin' now:
Hertz 6.5" and tweeter up front
JL 10" sub in box in the boot
JL HD600/4 amp 150 watts front 300 watts rear
Alpine Imprint Processor
Dynamatt in the doors

Wowsa,...that is some serious stereo.
I think it's a standard 6-speaker system on the S but the manufacturer is changing to H-K. Hopefully it will be decent,....then again, that's what I used to think about BOSE.

We just hit 50K miles on our 07 Mini S which is our summer DD. The car is so darn much fun, and the turbo is just a blast. My wife jokes that it drives like a go-kart....

To date, we have had zero problems with the car. It has been quite reliable.

Go for it! You will be pleased.

Nice choice Dave. I seriously considered getting one a few years ago, but careened over to the Porsches. I've heard of the issues with harsh ride, but hopefully for the intended use it won't be a problem. Sounds like you're having fun with both the TT and the 986. Love the paw prints.

Actually there are more serious car audio installs...mine just sounds good. Hopefully the HK system in the 2010's is nice. If not I can tell you there is a way around the system for some seriously nice sound.
