Is the 997 more than I need?
#16
I'm in the same boat as you are. I drive an '87 911 now and want to upgrade to either a 993 or 997. The 997 sounds like an incredible car but I have wondered whether I need all the gadgets that come on it. I'll have to take both out for a drive and just judge it then. What was your impression of the 997 compared to your '88 911?
Certainly it was alot more powerful but the driving on rails feeling was what I noticed the most. The 993 is also two generations inproved over my 911 so really any "newer" model I test drive will make my car feel antiquated in comparison.
This is hot helping

I am a big lover of the 993 body and its driving characteristics.
However, that being said, for a reliable car you can take anywhere, without worry, buy a 997.
Now, for a second Porsche (just what we all need), get a 993.

Finances permitting, why not keep the '88 911 and get the 997?
'88 -> last year Carrera is classic too.
I got a 997 several months ago to replace a 964, and it's taken that long to start letting go of the 964. I'm almost there but haven't put it up for sale yet. I've realized that old and new are both tremendously fun, and the differences are fun too.
Hard to go wrong, no?
