Default Sport Bucket Seats and rear child seat?

Looking to buy a C2S coupe very soon and have found one that really is optioned out exactly as I'd like. However, I'd like to get any input on whether or not having the Sport Bucket Seats creates any issues with installing a REAR child seat for our ~35lb 2.5 year old boy. We have no intent in ever having him ride up front (at least not while he is in a child/booster seat) and I'm aware the Sport Bucket Seats do not offer a LATCH fixture.

I also see a lot of launch C4S coupes around that all have the sport bucket seats and if the right deal is to be had on one of those, I may consider as well.

Thanks for any input!

I'm guessing that you're a bit new to Porsches. I'm not aware of the seat that you call a "sport bucket." Are you referring to the Adaptive Sport Seats?

It's my understanding that the latch thing can be retrofitted to all the factory OEM seats. If you are placing your child seat in the rear area (as you should) that area can easily take a variety of child seats. This topic does come up periodically on this forum,--just do a search for child seats. There was a question about this within the last ten days, in fact. Rather than rehashing the same stuff over and over take a quick gander at that to see if that can answer your concerns. I've personally mounted a Grayco child seat in the rear of my cab and have the *** seats.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did do a search and found a number of posts regarding child seats but what I'm trying to find out is if there are any specific issues with the "Sport Bucket Seats" (as they are called). These are the hardshell ones that have a lightweight carbon fiber style back and broad openings in the shoulder area to accommodate racing harnesses. These are not the Adaptive Sport Seats. If you are familiar with the 2009 C4S launch cars in Meteor Grey, you'll see the Sport Bucket Seats on those. I've also seen them on the GT3s.

Anyway...I couldn't find any posts specific to these seats but I'll keep searching. Trying to find out if the design of this specific seat could be an issue at all with a child seat in the back.

BTW..this would be 6th P-car so not that new to Porsche's!

You shouldn't have any issues at all, assuming the sport bucket seats move forward as I think they do; you will need some foot room for your child but that has never been a problem for me. I know the seats you are talking about and they are sweet! You might want to put some clear protection film over the carbon fiber backs to protect them a bit from scratches - the kids will kick around and can scuff up the seat backs.

You need to cite model year sometimes when you're writing. I was assuming you were referring to the launch cars from 05 days,--there's a lot of traffic here by lookers at older cars, vice the newer ones. Yes,--the carbon fiber shelled sport buckets shouldn't interfere, but will not support a child seat.

My Sport Buckets have a large sticker on the back of them saying not to have anyone sit there.

My car is an 06, but they were added aftermarket, I believe from Suncoast. They were in my car when I purchased, but they are these seats: http://www.e-partssales.com/miva/mer...e=997seatsroll

I don't have my camera handy and my cell phone isn't taking good enoug pictures to read the warning label. Perhaps someone else has an actual picture of the warning label?

I think those are the 996 GT2 seats, perhaps/ I recall the 997 GT2 to be significantly carbon fiber,--none of that leather, for weight savings.

Edgy01 - Go to the Porsche car configurator and build a 997. They are the "Sports Bucket Seats" listed in the interior options.

I've been thinking about this all afternoon. Since the seats in my car are probably take-offs from a GT2, the sticker is most likely refering to the rear seat area since in a GT2 doesn't have any "seats" there and is not designed for passengers. AJBoston - you are probably ok as long as your childseat fits. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.

No issues with child seats in the back, the latch system is for the front seat not the rear seats. The rear seats has anchors as well, since your child is only 35lbs he's not quite ready for a booster yet. Issue is finding a seat that will fit back there. There are a few do a search..

When a booster is needed look at the Recaro Vivo, they fit back there perfectly and they only run about $80.00.

the rear seats are the same, so its fine.. front seats still recline, just be careful putting the kid back there as to not mess up the ol' carbon.

The real "sport bucket" seats dont not fold forward to allow access to the rear seats. They will slide forward on the rails but the back of the seat will not fold forward. The regular sports seats and the adaptive sports seats will recline forward to allow access.

I have the recaro child seet and my 37 lb 3 year old fits fine with either the sports seats, adaptive sport seats or standard 997.2 seats, however I have never tried it with a car that has the sports bucket seats and i imagine its a PITA since they dont fold forward.

You would need to move the passenger seat pretty far forward to have room for your kid seat and thats not going to work real well on a long trip for the adult infront.

On the other had its really cool to have your kid sitting almost next to you when he/she is in the back. Sometimes I grab a Cabriolet on nights I know I am taking AJ to preschool the next morning and he loves riding with the top down and his shades on even at 3 years old.
