Default Bridgestone N-0 / N-1 update

Hi Gents thought it would be helpful to post an "update", as I got some helpful info from Bridgestone. Based on this, I am likely going to leave the two rears with the N-0, and the fronts at the N-1. Besides, these rears will only last 8K miles anyway....

I got off the phone with the supplier and asked him about the N1 in the rears. Now, both the N0 and N1 are Porsche approved tires. I Also contacted someone at bridgestone to find out the difference between the two:
N0 - first generation tire designed and recieved approval by Porsche
N1 - second generation tire designed and recieved approval by Porsche

Both of these tires are OE Approved by Porsche. Bridgestone told me the tires did not have any difference, just different generation, same approval by manufacturer, and thus had to now have the "N-1" designation. Ribber compund, technology, tread, etc., are all exactly the same.

There is an ad in the August edition of the PCA magazine (Panorama) by Michelin, showing by model the size and type of Porsche approved tires. Some are up to N4, but your info confirms what I thought, the "N" designation starts at 0 and subsequent versions are sequentially numbered.

My car came with the Stones, I need to check whether they are N0 or N1.

That is correct on a new car, you likely have all four tires at the same designation my info basically confirmed that that need not be the case, however, you should strive to have the same designation on each axle I believe.

Only 8K miles out of the rears....what are you doing to these tires? My car has 7800 miles and the rears look like they could go another 15-20k miles.

Check your alignment....I bet you have too much toe. Toe will grind a tire to death. I run .14 degrees toe in the rear and have been running -1.7 degress camber.

I need to take a pic of my rears...you will be shocked at how well they look.

Are you talking about Bridgestone RE050A tires? The N designation refers to official Porsche approval. You may wish to step outside the box of officially approved tires and try the new Bridgestone RE-11 tire, when you are ready to replace your present tires. I have 800 miles on a set, and they are by far the best street tire I've had on all of the Porsches I've owned over the years.

By the way, mdrums must have some kind of magical alignment or driving style. If my math is correct, he or she is claiming 22,800 to 27,800 miles on a set of rear tires. Never have heard of any rear tire wearing that long on a rear-engined Porsche.

My OEM Contis lasted 20K in the rears. I swapped them out early because I wanted to try out the Michelins. Could have probably gotten another 5 K out of them.

lawjdc -I've gotten a bit over 24 in the rear on a set of Conti's and am at 18K on rear's with PS2's, will probably get another 2K.

Cole328-Since the Stones have no changes from 1 generation to the next, why do they have generation changes?

So far so good....VERY quiet however, too early to tell, as the tread on these things must be a 1/4" deep (or so it feels), so the car is a tad squishy in corners....I'lll be driving her hard next week or two to scrub off some of the rubber and will report back

That will never happen! They will be gone before you know it. Time to start stuffing Benjamins into a jar every week or so for the next set!
