Seems like many Porsche owners buy a new model every 2-4 years or so. If I like a car, I tend to keep my vehicles longer, about 8-10+ years.

I consider my 997.1 to be a keeper and can't see trading it for a 997.2. Maybe the next gen 911 at some point in the distant future, but maybe not. Porsche seems to be getting more and more high tech, perhaps more than I'd like.

Curious if others also feel their 997 is a keeper?

Due to the significant improvements, the 997.2 is more of a keeper than the 997.1.... but that is only until the next one comes along.

I bought my 997.2 as a keeper, but I buy all my cars as keepers and it's funny how it never works out that way.... so many choices so little time.

I thought that my 997.1 S was a keeper until I traded it for a 997RS. However, my 996C4 Conv. will be my keeper. The RS is definitely a keeper, even if I purchase the next gen RS.

Definitely not...I always lease, b/c as much as I love a car when new, after 2-3 years, I want the "newest" thing and the best technology. I never fall in love with a car, as there is always something better.

My Orange beast is a keeper....I really think so. I truly love that car. It has and does everything just the way I want it. The allure of faster and better with the new TT doesn't interest me at all. I think when it outlives its DD duties it might become my next 'dedicated' track car.

It's a difficult answer. When I bought my first 911 I thought that I would keep it forever. My piece of Porsche nostallgia, all mine that would last ad infinitum. However it seems that most of us, sooner or later fall victim, to the class A persona and aura of perfectionism that lives inside each of us. Whether its the latest article in a Porsche journal, or the allure of the newest 911, Turbo or GT3 that catches our eye at the local dealer. Somewhere down the road we are drawn again to the mystique of owning another Porsche whether its new or a well kept 993. When we have run the course with our present Porshce, and have tracked it, or moded all that we could, there still remains the thirst for wanting a new challenge. For now I'm keeping my first 911. It's four and half years old, paid for, and in great condition. Hopefully I will give it to my son. My new goal now is to own a Turbo. I've recently read about the new improvements for the 2010 TT coming out next year and it has me growing thirsty for a new challenge. I'll keep you posted if I satisfy my new desire or continue to enjoy my original piece of history. Either way, it's a win, win situation.

My cayman non-s really is all I need for a street sports car. But life wouldn't be complete without a 911. My next sports car will be either a 997 convertible or 993 turbo. I've always liked convertibles so as far as the Porsche world, I think I could live with a 993 turbo as a keeper with the latest boxster on lease every few years. Life also wouldn't be complete without an Italian car at one point either. If a deal comes along next year on a used Maserati Gran Turismo I'd go that way.

Since this is my first Porsche, I think I will keep it. I am very pleased with the marque and will continue to add more cars in the future, either 2010 Turbo or GT3, or both..

There's not much to be gained and a lot of money to be lost by trading for facelifts. I would not have kept a 996 when the 997 was introduced, but I would not have traded a 997.1 for the 997.2. I leased a 986 back in 99 and never intended it to be a long term relationship. I had an 06 Cayman S for 3 years, but needs and desires change, and it gave way to an 09 C2S Cab. My 997.2 will be a longer term relationship because I don't envision my wants or needs changing anytime soon. There is always the possibility of a Ferrari down the road, but I'm thinking Italia and wife is thinking California.

They've all been keepers when I bought them, that lasts until I see something else I like. These days it's a year or two. I did keep my '95 4 years, that one kept growing on me.

The Porsche I custom order and pick up at the factory will be my keeper. Until then, the C4S is a good stand-in. The other car I'll get (again) and keep forever is the Audi RS4. Such an amazing machine... Next time I'll get a red one.
