Put a set of Hankooks on my '08 C4S.......235/35 and 305/30...have about 800 miles on them. PS 2's came off. After the Car and Driver article and talking with some people that actually know something about tires....decided to try a set. So far I am quite impressed....good stability...actually I can't tell the difference from PS 2's except that the Hankooks are much more quiet....on all road surfaces...especially the interstate. I have no way of knowing about road noise and wear as they age,,,but I bet they will be just fine. Best part...$988 out the door at Gran Turismo Tire in Chamblee, Ga. PS 2's are great tires...the price is insane. The more you pay is not the better you get...ie paying a local shop $100 to change oil and filter vs over $300 at a dealer...Mobil 1 is Mobil 1 and a Porsche filter is a Porsche filter.
I don't drive at that level on the street - just the track. Half the year I am driving (daily) on winter tires, so there's the first compromise. Since I'm nowhere near the car's limits on the street, I am more sensitive to cost and noise (although there needs to be pretty decent performance, too).
You don't have to be that proficient to tell the difference. It's the old, you get what you pay for.
also, I realize tires are a sensitive subject on this board - but if you refer back to the CD comparison on tires, the PS2's fared poorly against tires that were (for our cars anyway) much less expensive. I'm running Kumho's on my C4 - which replaced the PS2's - if anything grip feels better and road noise is less.
My friends new 997.2 S came with Contis as OEM and he was not a happy camper about that.
Amazing how we get such different results from our tires. I've had good results with Contis, not so good luck with the stones, so so with the P's and real good with the M's. Doesn't look like Tire Rack is offering the M's in 305's so I'm quite interested in the results others are getting. The C&D article ranked the Stones as average and the Conti's 2nd, go figure.
As I have mentioned before in other threads, I have a set of these tires (Hankook V12's) in my garage as I write this. I am waiting on my new wheels to arrive and install these tires on them.

I beg to differ in this case. You can't possibly tell me that by paying $1k more for a set of tires (Hankook V12's vs MPS2's) ---- you get what you pay for? If the V12's are 90% as good as the MPS2's at 45% of their cost -- are you saying that "you get what you pay ($1K more in this case) for"? Provide me the rationale that $1k more is worth the 10% better product. And by the way, I'm not saying that the MPS2's are EVEN 10% better than the V12's......I don't know as of yet.
PS2 tires are great but as some one else mentioned earlier, savings on alternative tires can make sense if they are similar performance. Braking and predictibility are the two things that I look for in a tire.
I learned that approach riding motorcycles at the track, weekend rides and commuting... I have gone through a lot of tires... and I have to mention, sometimes you get more than what you paid for, you just need to do your homework.

Great. I have a set of Contisportcontact 3's in my basement ready to go. I hope I'm not disappointed. The 3's are the new N Spec from Conti. Did your friend have 3's or the 2's?
This is the tire I am going with on my turbo when the PS2's are used up (won't be too much longer). I have no real world experience with them but have read reviews as well as the C&D article and have yet to read something negative about them. With or without the N1 rating, to me it's a no brainer.
put Hankooks on my 06 997 s
quiet and track real well
for 25 years i have owned a 1983 911 with a German motor ie 204hp drove it in germany as fast as it would go for hours maybe 135-140mph with different tires over the years Pirellis, Bridgestones, Firestones, Dunlops, can not remember all
but i have no comparison with this car there is a world of difference between the two duh
the Pirelli p zeros were all worn out when I bought the 997
I mostly do not drive over 100 mph and when I do it is straight ahead and no track stuff
in New Mexico hit 168-170 indicated for about 5 miles the Hankooks were smooth but again straight ahead it was different waaaaaaaaaay different above 140
so with only 1700 miles on them i like them
hear in South Carolina they seem good in wet conditions too
Edgy01 - are you sure your data isn't old? Both the Contis and the Hankooks scored very well in the latest testing...
Tires are always improving. The new Bridgestone N1s, according to Pano, are a rival for the Pilot Sport Cups in many ways....
I am not generally cheap but have to say the Michelin's are ridiculously priced when there are close competitors for a lot less $ (if you believe the C&D was an objective test)

Sorry, that math doesn't work for me.
Are you really getting a set of four tires, mounted, balanced, etc. for $350?
Because I pay about $1350 for 4 Bridgestones with all that included.
