Default RMS / Oil leaks covered by CPO?

Hi guys -

Found oil drips in my garage post track day and I am preparing for the worst the treaded RMS. Hopefully just a simple gasket issue. On the last check up I got a chance to take a good look under the car and found it to be bone dry.

Did my searches and found some instances where the RMS was covered by factory warranty but no concrete evidence that applies to the CPO, after the car rolls off the factory new car warranty.

Anythoughts?

It is my understanding that CPO is a precise continuation
of the factory warranty. As such, any RMS issues
should be covered.

Unfortunately my friend I have been informed by my local dealer that that is no longer the case. Going forward they become "limited warranties"

The dealer's exact words. Service manager also said "Porsche's warranty was extemely thourough, it has become very costly and therefore they have made it to match the rest of the luxury car market."

Make of that what you want.

RMS issues are a well documented design problem. Unless PCNA has modified their position on RMS replacements they are covered under the warranty, extended warranty (CPO) and in a great number of cases w/ no warranty on a 2005/2006 car under their 'goodwill' policy.

If you have a good relationship w/ your dealer/service mgr they'll typically get the job done.

That is truly amzing to me. It was my understanding that
the Porsche CPO is identical to the factory warranty.
In fact, numerous dealers have stated this.

Even if the CPO is not the same as the factory warranty,
I would certainly expect any RMS issues to be covered.

No official diagnoses yet but I just wanted to confirm the above with someone.

Thank you sir.

My understanding was that that CPO warranty was limited until this year, and that in 08-09 became a continuation of the factory warranty. That said, when I was sold the car I was told the warranty was a continuation of the prior warranty and I don't believe I received any documentation describing what the warranty did and did not cover.

That all said, I would bet an RMS issue is covered under the warranty. Even a limited type of powertrain warranty would cover such a problem, I would expect.

This ^ is true only on CPO warranties issued after August of 2008.

Well thus my issue as mine was issued in April of 2008, for a 2005 car.

Although I agree with most of you that if in fact it is confirmed to be an RMS issue they should cover it regardless.

Well guys my local shop has confirmed that it is infact a RMS. I called my Porsche Dealer Napleton Porsche in Westmont Il and they do cover it under the CPO!

So off it goes to the doctor while I leave on vacation for 2 weeks.

Question 2=> Is this an opportunity to try to get a new clutch, whether they cover it or not?

clutch is a consumable item, so it is not covered.

It seems that 05 cars has RMS problem becuase of the weaker parts.. folks out there.. if you have 05, I'd say track your car and get the problem exposed before warranty end :-).

Maybe tracking the car will expose the problem earlier....but what I am wondering... is there any stipulation about racing and warranty claims?? Might be best to keep the tracking part under your hat.
