C2S PDK vs GT3 thoughts
Today I drove my C2S more aggressively than I have before because I had to go out of town to the Dr. On the way back I hooked up my V1 to provide Radar coverage. Of course i had to go to Wal Mart and buy a shower caddy and steal the suction cups off the back becuase my V1 is 6 years old and the suction cups have sucked their last cup.
The big thing I noticed was that the car just does what I want when I want.
All I have to do is either push the Sport or Sport Plus button. In Red Rock canyon on Hwy 14 its really curvy at 65 mph speed limit and the road is beautifully repaved, so Sport Plus worked well through there. With the GT3 I got caught SO many times in the wrong gear. Then I had to shift 6th to 5th to 4th or even 3rd to do what I want. PDK while in fuel conservation mode, I have to push one button and take off. Its so much easier than hitting the 6000-8400RPM sweet spot in the GT3. It doesnt have the same sweet sound. The GT3 has the best sound I have ever heard. It requires you be aware of what you are doing, what gear, what RPM etc etc. Thats cool and VERY interactive.
But in the PDK you can listen to the stereo THEN find some nice pavement PUSH Sport or Plus and be Speed Racer again. Its really Cool. In the GT3 you need to be Racer X at all times. Some one wrapped a GT3 around a fence in Red Rock before, I think.
Hit the Plus button the C2S hunkers down and hustles you right through. It has a better track than the 996 GT3. The 997 GT3 tracked better also (as far as the front end wandering goes)
Disclaimer: I have NEVER gone over the Speed limit nor do I CONDONE going over the speed limit at ANY time! The fact that I have to go to court on Thursday to defend myself against these baseless charges is BESIDES the point. On the outside chance I LOSE this case, then I will go to traffic school to
absolve my record. I am 2 fer 2 in local traffic court in 25 years.

Paul - since we've taken the same step (997.1 GT3 to 997.2 C2S PDK) can well relate to your observations.
One thing I do miss, the howl of the GT3 at rev limiter...
Oh my, still shiver...

Paul, even though I have a lowly S Cayman Cabriolet with PDK, I share your thoughts on the when you mash the throttle, it goes to the right gear that puts you at mid range on the revs. Then goes on up beautifully to red line in the other gears. Of course, I have never hit 3rd or fourth gear ( I can only imagine!) on the public highways.

Very well summarized. Versatility has become more important to me as the years have progressed. The GT3 can be used for more than a single purpose, but it always reminds the driver, and especially the passenger (i.e. my wife), that it's a track car. The C2S w/ PDK assumes different personalities very easily, capable of thrilling performance as well as boulevarding. I suspect I might feel differently if I were still 25, but then again when I was 25 I couldn't afford these cars. As HL Menken said, the problem w/ youth is that it's wasted on the young.

My progression was 07 C2S to 07 GT3 to 09 C2S Sport Pasm manual. I find the 09 C2S as capable as the GT3 on the track (Watkins Glen and Lime Rock for comparison purposes - Black / Red group). BUT, the 09 C2S is much more comfortable on the street, which is where my Porsches reside when not on the track (driven April through November here in the Northeast). They really hit their stride with the 997.2 C2S and I'm sure the 997.2 GT3 is going to be a monster (which is not what I want).

I just got my 09 997S with PDK after trading in my 07 9974S Cab and the difference is remarkable.....absolutely the most fun I have ever had driving a car.....and I have driven a lot of them. The only car that comes close to the handling is my previous 06 Cayman S......I have never had any other 911 in any series that comes close to the yhid 09 997S with PDK.....Never driven a GT3 but I am sure it is great also.....

Dr Z if you have your C2S then you know sorta what it feels like (except for that HOWL!!) in a 996 GT3.
Very similar in Sport plus.
PDX I would like to experience the mid engine Porsche with PDK!!!!

Paul: Great write up and I feel the same about my '09 C2S over my previous '07 GT3. As for howl at rev limit remove the center muffler and replace it with the Sharkwerks cross over by pass pipes. Easy install with the car on the ground (easier still on a lift) Reduces 10 lbs at the rear, increases HP and brings back that Porsche sound yet keeps the cabin quiet at cruise and no drone anywhere in the Rev range. I have had mine on since two weeks after delivery. Alos as for warranty issues my dealer has no problem with it.

Ahhh, I need it for 997.1. If Sharkwerks doesn't make one for that model does anyone else?
What about the Fabspeed muffler bypass. I'm after GT3-like sound.
