997 Hardtop Question

I just upgraded a 996 top which had the bayonet type connectors, to the current design screw type connectors. The mounts for the car are easy to install. The top 4 parts in the list attached, plus bolts (8), and wrench are all that's needed. If you already have a top with screw type connectors, all you need are the Fixtures which are the mounts for the car. Enjoy.

My hardtop is in the paint shop and I am looking for some information on how to remove the plastic strips/drainage channels on the top of the roof? There are rubbers underneath them so pretty sure it comes off?
Also I am trying to find the workshop instructions on how to remove the interior panels from it to strip it out before painting?
Thanks

Removing the interior panels is quite simple. Start in the back and just remove every visible screw.
The drip channel is filled with a plastic trim that looks very similar to the t-shaped (in cross-section) trim that was used for decades on 911s at body panel junctions (like front wings from the body itself down at the bottom of the windscreen corner). I suspect that the removal process is also simple--start at one end and work it up and then pull it up and out. Putting it back in--now that may be something else entirely!

Reviving old thread -- need a picture...
Hi all -- I've spent a couple of hours today searching and reading threads about 997 hardtops. Deliberately resurrecting this thread as it has some good info but hoping someone can help me out.
I'm about to buy a 997 hardtop from a fellow Rennlister. Looks like it came out of an '06-'07 car (have asked for confirmation), but it's definitely a 997 top -- see attached photo.
I have a 2010 C4S, so 997.2. I have no idea if it has the mounting hardware -- not near the car right now, have to check in the morning. Few questions:
1. Can someone *with* a cab + hardtop post a picture of what I should find under the little plastic caps if I'm good to go?
2. I'm reading that if I don't have what I need, the mounting kit could be $200 -- or $900 -- which is it? Again *not* converting a 996 top for a 997 here.
3. What other tools do I need for this? Anyone have pdf instructions...? This should be a DIY even for an only slightly handy person like myself right?
Once I get this thing repainted, idea would be to put it on in late fall/early winter, when the winter wheels go on, and take it back off in spring... Plus I love the look...
Thanks in advance.
Edit -- in case it's helpful to answer the question, the top in question has the threaded screws...

Soooo I picked up the above hard top today. Now to buy the receiving mounts. Porsche dealer says about $450 (for the mounts in the car only, since it looks like I already have the 997 "screw type" pins on the top itself).
So how crazy/ugly/odd would it be to have a Black Basalt Metalic hard top on a "regular" black car...? This top is clean, hate to repaint if I don't need to, and I figure my current rag top is a matte black anyway and obviously doesn't match the glossy black car... But I'm probably just being an idiot...
Also, the headliner and sides are black which matches my black interior, but the rear shelf And plastic panels covering the mounting screws are dark brown... How much would that bother you guys in a triple black car...? My 997 is not a concourse car, it is driven (not much, but still... I bought it to use it...). And how would I even go about changing these pieces if I wanted to...?

No one will notice. I am in the process of doing what you are. If you have the old bayonet type mount - pre 2004 there is a company that sells the mounts for $275. They are aftermarket and are aluminum.

If you have the new ones you can get them from Europe for about $300

(Any idea whether that comes with the bolts required to install and the little L-shaped wrench...?). Thanks again for the tip, and let us know how you make out with yours.

No idea about the bolts. Or the wrench, but for some reason the wrench is in my glove box.
I am glad about forums or I would have overlooked those
And since I have the wrench I am going to look to see if the previous owner already put the mounts in.
Also, in case any tone is wondering, I have a top from my 996 in the basement. It is silver and beat to crap. My car is standard black. I am going to repaint it with aerosol cans.

This forum is great! I’m a new Porsche , 2003 Carrera cabriolet, owner - since December 18th, 2018, and have fixed everything, and am looking for a seal grey hardtop, hopefully near the mid cities area ,between Dallas & Ft. Worth. Any to save on freight, any suggested places, sites to find one? Thanks for any help.
