Battery Replacement
2007 997 S Tiptronic: The dealer replaced the Moll with an Interstate MTP-91 (700CCA), made a minor tray adjustment to fit, and connected the vent tube, and cleared all the fault codes for about $200. The Interstate MTP-H7 resembles the Moll better in appearance, but was $100 more and had fewer CCA's (I think 630). Same warranty on both. Thanks for all the input on this forum to help with the decision.

Just incase some of you didn't know-
On Interstate batteries don't forget to get the breather kit as the stock one will not fit.
If you change the battery your readiness codes will clear. So if you go to get a inspection/smog it may not pass.
Take off the negative cable first and install it last. This will avoid a accidental grounding out your wrench on the positive.

battery should come fully charged. You can have them check it before you buy it. Also look for a date stamp on the battery (round sticker with month and year). Try and get one that is within 3 months

I just put a LOT of distilled baby water into my MOLL oem battery. The stealership always told me the battery was not user refillable! I learned from rennlist that some people were refilling them and did so today. After this I connected the oem battery tender. Hope this battery last´s a long time because it is my second already!

buy a 94R battery (same as Interstate H7), which is a direct fit replacement. Aftermarket sources list a group 49 battery that is longer requires you to play around with the clamp bolt. 94R is a common battery for Mercedes and Audi cars and even some Chrysler vehicles during Mercedes ownership.
I was there to buy shop towels on my way to dealer to buy an OEM replacement and thought I would check for the heck of it and much to my surprise, they listed one in their catalog, they had one in stock, it was identical to the OEM and it was a quarter of the price!

I have a 996 so this might be different than the 997's.
Anyway, the computer at Walmart told me that I needed a Maxx-49 for my 996. I get home and it is larger than the one I am taking out and has more CCA (650 vs 850).
Do I need to take this back or am I OK? I will need to get a different bolt for the mounting plate.
Thoughts?

Contrary to what the "book" says, the Wal-Mart MAXX 94R is a direct replacement for both the 996 and 997...can't beat $77 plus a great warranty - it's the 94R not the 49.

The car cranks a bit slowly after sitting for about a week. It's also been horrid cold here. I have not had the chance to drive it for anything more than 5 miles since. The battery is the original '05, so I'm wondering if it's time to get a new battery. What say you?

+1000000 on the Wal-Mart battery. <$80 and took all of 5 minutes to put in. A dealer taking $300+ from people for this job should be ashamed.......as should the customer who would pay it!

Burning Brakes
Similar symptoms here, getting worse in winter and the tender wasn't doing the job so clearly there was a bad cell or something wrong in the battery. Got the WalMart battery and put it in myself (with the tender plugged in so no resets needed for any electronics). Easy and fast. Perfect fit. More amps and works great now.
