If your alternator doesn't work right, no battery is going to be useful as you will discharge your battery to dead pretty quick in a single drive or a few starts.

Ha! That's true. Sorry for being nonsensical... it's a habit of mine.

Trust me, I'm no mechanic, but wasn't about give anyone a couple hundred bucks + to supply and install a battery.
and a 3 yr free replacement. after all there are only a few battery manufacturers in the US.

Thank you. I had long ago made myself a note on the MTP-91 as the best replacement battery. I have now changed that to the MTP-H7.

I picked up a Interstate MTP-H7 yesterday and dropped it in my 2006 C2S. Installation was a piece of cake, a very easy do it yourself task. I figured it was good insurance against being stranded somewhere. Big thanks to the OP for starting this thread, it motivated me to get this handled!

Must be something in the air affecting Porsche batteries. I also replaced mine yesterday after it turned up dead after 3 weeks on a trickle charger. I used the Interstate MTP-H7 on advice in this thread. Can re-reconfirm it's a perfect fit - vent tube and all. Paid $136. Ten minute install.

How old was the battery you replaced? I'd be concerned about the utility of the trickle charger if it cannot keep a sub-5 year battery in shape.

My relpaced battery was 5+ years old (original in the 2006 car), and so ready to go. I've used the trickle charger most of the time when car sits for over a week, and am happy with the results using it.

if anybody has a free second - could you take your multimeter and measure voltage in the cigarette lighter socket when car runs at idle and when at 3K rpm, please.

interesting question, and an easy one for me to check, cause my escort radar detector is set up to default the screen to the cars electrical system's current voltage.

engine off 12.7 V (after sitting for 5 hours in the garage )
engine at idle (990 rpm) 14.7 V
2000 rpm 14.7 V
3000 rpm 14.7 V
4000 rpm 14.9 V

I ran the test with the garage door closed, now I have a headache, I am going to go take a nap.

Has anyone tried 94R? I noticed that 49 won't work not without modifying the location of the mount. Thanks!

I bought an Energizer 108-94R from Walmart and it was a direct fit on my 2006 997 S cab. It took less than 5 mins to swap the Porsche one with the Energizer one. The Energizer is made by Johnsons Controls INc.

Special thanks to JasonKM for making this easy. As per his advice, I installed Walmart's EverStart MAXX 94R. It fits absolutely perfectly! It's almost identical to OEM battery except this carries 765 CCA and 3 yr direct replacement + 9 yr pro rate. I paid $77 + core charge which seems like a bargain compare to OEM. This battery was made by Johnson Controls.
