Yes I know. I used to live in KPT TN and liked their trade in rules. A couple of years ago, MD went to the same rules as TN on trade in. +1 for the consumer.

It's only money. If it's very important to you either way (buy the new one or keep your $$), then there's your answer. Of course, I go through cars like water, so I'm not the best person to ask.

I traded my 04 Targa after 5 months for an 05 997S launch car. Different market, and I did get a killer deal on the Targa, but it was an expensive move. (It was worth it for the much advanced 997S though!)

You will get killed on that swap. You have a fantastic car. Keep it and enjoy it!

WIth the back end money available now you are going to get 20% off the C4S. Thats great THese ARE deals of a lifetime as someone on 6 speed says. So that may be worth it. Youre probably looking at
50k and up for yours but I am just guessing
The cut rate prices though affect the used marekt

Go to the dealer and see what you can do. If you like what they offer buy it, you sure don't need to ask us if your happy with deal or not.

The dealer is going to mug you. No question about it.

Only if you trade the car in at the dealer you are buying the new car from.

True, but two dealers can work together on a prearranged transaction. That's what I did when I ordered my car. Worked for me and shaved off $7k+ on the sales tax.

Unfortunately it eliminates the ability to do a private sale. So you have to pick your poison, accept wholesale as a trade-in or get whacked with full taxes if you do a private sale.

Unless the pre-arranged transaction is with a private party. Normally, I'd say that a dealer wouldn't want to fool with this, but they are hungry right now. These days it pays to get creative... Your point is well taken, though, as I'd say most of the time it's either or.

If you really think you made a mistake and want something different, the only way to minimize your losses is to sell your current car privately during this best time of the year to sell a car. Then wait 6 months or so and see if you can either pick up a nice low mileage used 09 of your choice for a price significantly discounted from new, or pick up a new one from a hungry dealer in the middle of winter when sales are slow. The wait will help reduce the differential between your 08 and a 09 (or 10).

Prices are mad right now and with the 1.9% financing, yours is worth even less to a dealer. I just found 2 private party 2009 C2's for sale and both of them will take $60K. One has 760 miles, the other has 1,578 miles. Lucky me...I am in the market for a 996 GT3 or 997 like yours. PM me and let's see if I can't help.

Well... I think I'll keep it. I will probably replace it with the next gen 991 4s or the new Turbo. I realized I am not upgrading that much for the money I will lose. I'll probably start saving it for my next Porsche. The thing is, that these toys are addicting, once you have it you want more. I remember telling myself that this is my first and last Porsche but somehow things change as you drive these amazing machines! Thanks all for your comments.

Today's 'deals' are tomorrow's burdens. While you can get a heck of a piece of machinery today for the money (as compared to 2 years ago), the corollary is that you won't get as much at trade in time. What this means is 'it's going to cost you.'
