Default 997.2 Oil Question

My check oil level light came on today. So I went to the dealer to get a quart of oil. The guy gave me Total Quartz Energy 9000 Oil 5w40. I asked him for Mobil 1. He said this is what they are told to use now. Is this oil ok to use? Looks like I need a quart after 1940 miles.

Not sure what the 997.2 is using but I use Mobil1 15W-50 or 0W-40. and works just perfect. I believe the key is full synthetic and the correct weight.

My 2009 C4S came with Mobil 1 0W-40. I've added nearly 2 quarts now in 2,700 miles. Picked up a case really cheap on Amazon plus $10 rebate. Watch for it.

I'd just go get a quart of 0W40 Mobil1 from the autoparts store and be done with it.
It may be ok, but I'm never comfortable mixing oil types or brands in the engine.

Don't worry about Total. They are the US version of a European company called ELF (you see their signs at F1 races). I believe they are Porsche approved, but they are relatively new to the US so they may not appear on the Porsche approved US list. I think you are OK and I would not worry about it. There was a letter in the latest version of Excellence that described this very scenario....they said Total was ok for Porsche from what I remember and my independant confirmed the same for me FWIW....

After posting the above I noticed that it might be out of date.

my M6 used Castrol 10w60 racing oil only sold at the BMW dealer for 10.50 a pop. They gave you a 'free' quart with the car, then add your own later between the scheduled oil changes. I think I used at least 5 quarts over the 2 years i owned the car. BTW, this extra oil was not included in the free maintenance!!!

My M5 drank oil My dealer would pour me a liter for free, they considered it part of the free maintenance.

So far my 997.2 has not used any oil in about 660 miles if the electronic dipstick is accurate.

I used Mobile 0-40W for mine. The car ate up 2 1/2 quarts in 2300 miles.

I broke the 1000 miles mark yesterday and checked the oil. It was down one bar. Should I add some now or wait? If so, how much do I add?
