997.1 clutch
hey all,
so I've decided to shop for a used 997 as a replacement for my bmw 335i coupe and I've narrowed it down to a CPO C2 or C2S in the $50-60k range
i've driven a few now and they all felt different especially in the gearshift department.
Here's my observations:
07 C2 5k mi. - excellent clutch and gearshift
06 C2S 20k mi - pretty good clutch and gearshift
06 C2 12k mi. - excellent clutch and gearshift
05 C2 25k mi. - very heavy clutch and rather sloppy shifter
Do the older cars have heavier clutch or is it a mileage thing?
Thanks,
Holson

As clutches wear they naturally get heavier. The Gen 1 997 "s" cars have self adjusting clutches which address this, the Gen 1 997 "Non-S" cars do not. Hence a Gen 1 non-S is more likely to have a heavy clutch than an 'S".
All Gen 2 (997.2) cars have the self adjusting clutches.
So yes, a non-S Gen 1 car will be more likely to have a worn and hence heavier clutch.

The S car's clutch may also be worn; however, the self adjusting clutch "adjusts" for the wear 'masking' the symptoms. http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5456345.html. So you cannot rely solely on 'feel' with the S.
To the OP, have any car reviewed carefully by an experienced and trusted Porsche certified mechanic before buying to know what you are getting...
