Smile Ralph T. Boothe center caps - experiences?

Hi Guys,

I'm doing a little pre-purchase research on center caps. I saw the OEM ones, look nice but made from plastic I understand. Also so the ones from Ralph T. Boothe but haven't seen them in real life. Pics on his site look nice though.

Does anyone have the ones from Boothe on a 997? If so, which ones (small crest, bigger crest, regular or no-turn)? Do you like the look? How are they holding up over time?

Thank you.

Pieter

Hi Ben,

Yes, you're right, I owe you all some pictures as part of a formal introduction. Here is one in the interim (have never posted a picture before):

I've heard nothing but good things about Booth's center caps. A lot of guys on 6speed use them, gotta have that bling! No personal experience though, I like my Carrera 4s.

Here's one painted to match wheel - caps are metal with real crest mounted on cap. Cap is held by 3 screw/bolts on the inside. I like them so much I bought another set for second car.

I bought lug nuts from him for my 993 about 5 years ago. He is local in SoCal so I went to his house. After an hour of looking at each other's Porsche's and talking cars, he and his wife invited me and my wife in for a cool drink before we headed home. So, yeah I'd say he is a good guy and I would not hesitate to do business with him. All his stuff looked to be of high quality at the time. Nice 993 turbo at the time, too.......

Thanks. Good input. @JHBrennan: did you consider the ones with the larger crests or the no-turn technology ones? Thanks again.

I gotta say that before owning a Porsche I never knew that there was so much concern for center caps on rims.

At $400 for four...it was never a concern to me. They look nice...
Heck, just go for it and spend $600 on the no turn technology....maybe add the little dog with the bobbing head on the dash too and a pair of "porsche dice" on the rearview mirror.

where can I get the Porsche dice? Can I get them in leather matching my interior? Is there a GT3 version in alcantara? Or an RS version in alcantara with ayellow sripe in the center?

Yes, it is ridiculous. Than again, a lot of topics are.

The thought occured to me when I saw the original plastic caps run 200 bucks. For 160 more, Boothe seems to make sense.

The plastic caps are definitely lighter, which means less unsprung weight, if that's important at all for you.

I've always preferred the small crests. Never considered "no turn" - I'd never get to see it work.

I got a set of coloured caps on eBay for $89. Look great. Plastic. Won't cry if they get damaged.

With the money saved you could buy a K&N cold air intake and get 25 HP...and maybe a fouled MAF.
