Eh... I am not buying it. I followed the break-in procedure to a "T" with my 997.1, but I started hammering it after 1K miles this time. Also, it's a good idea to vary revs - keeping under 4K rpm doesn't leave much "variance". To each his own, but I'll keep doing the "normal" break-in vs. the overdone break-in.
Huh?

I am driving in the automode and the manual mode to vary the revs and i don't keep it in the lower gears when driving manual. when the rpm gets to 3000, i upshift. I am trying be good!!!

So normal to you is to hammer it after 1K and overdone is to follow the manual?
How'd i do?

OK - What I'm saying is that the 2K break-in is a bit of overkill. When I got my first 911, I was told half of the 2K break-in was for the driver, as the dynamics of a 911 are different from everything else. Makes sense, so on my first one I stuck to 2K miles. This being my third Porsche, I am doing strictly the mechanical (200 on tires, 400 on brakes, 1K on the rest) break-in.
I wasn't trying to be a dick, so I apologize. There is a HUGE thread about break-in procedures. I've talked to a ton of folks more knowledgable than I am, and most of them agree that 1K is plenty.

Yeah. I forgot to mention that part.... I did use manual to vary the RPM's but not when zooming around in traffic -- for that auto seemed to do the trick.
I know it was overkill... but that's just me.
