Want something throaty but i dont want CEL's or other problems because of the sensors getting different readings and dumping more gas/etc..
i have an 05 and i believe from being under the car the O2 sensors are in the cats, my question is if i were to get a custom exhaust made that bypassed the cats and used the bungs to "fool" the o2 sensors is it more headache than its worth? local shop said they have done it many times w/o problems (pipes coming off headers into a magnaflow X pipe muffler (he says keeps some backpressure to alleviate problems?) and then out the end....
other option would be to just remove side mufflers and put something less restrictive in its place..
the shop is a great shop, and while they havent had anyone come back w/ a CEL ive still read a few times that putting any aftermarket exhaust can cause problems because more airflow/etc.
basically.. if u had 1k and wanted something that was throaty, wouldnt kill your low end tq, and wouldnt harm the car in any way.. what would you get?...

Just swap out the stock mufflers for some Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers. Sound great will not hurt TQ and have that Cup car wail above 5k rpm.

Mike - I'm seriously considering the maxflo. Or busting the bank with the tubi. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to hear the maxflo in person. Some folks are not sold on it. Can you compare the two? And I know this is the most over-asked and subjective question possible, but what about the sound level? Can I cruise to work without causing a scene, but still make it growl on the track? I'd love to not pay the extra 1k for the Tubi, but the trouble of not liking the maxflo, re-selling and installing the Tubi if I don't like it balance it out. Anyone have a maxflo on a 997 or S in the DC area?

DanJK:
You have the right idea; you need to listen to one in person , not on YouTube. When you do, make sure the car is just muffler, not muffler + cats - you get much more with the combo. Also, call Joey at Fabspeed. He won't send you the free t shirts they promised but he will give you great advice.
The whole thing about all of this is that 'sound enjoyment' is pretty damn subjective. I have a Borla system on a 98 Viper and it is phenomenal; the one I heard on a 07 911S did nothing for me while others here will swear by them . Likewise, I heard a Tubi on a F 430 (great) and on a couple on Porsches (not much better than PSE). Not sure, but I think all of these were full systems and not just the mufflers.
