Default X51 Air Cleaner removal

Has anyone changed out the twin air cleaner filter elements on their X51 car?

I am looking for how to take off the covers, and it looks like there are a number of blind screws way down on the bottom that will require braille and a lot of cursing to remove.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA.

I suspect it will be a lot like the redular 2.8 air cleaners,--you need to remove the large rubber boot that connects it to the intake air distributor and the other boot and then lift it up and twist it up and out a little. If you're careful you can leave the electrical connections intact. Then you take a Torx driver to separate the carbon fiber assembly into two pieces,--and inside that you will find the way to replace the two standard air filters. (My understanding is that the X51 takes two of the standard 3.8 and 3.6 filters).

I have an X51 airbox and it looks like to me that you will have to remove the airbox completely to get to the screws. The airbox is very easily removed.

That's how I remember it. Disconnect the sundry attached hose clips and the entire box pulls up and out (carefully). Keep track of the rubber grommets that snug the box nubs to the metal work.

The box disassembles into two half shells from the bottom.

Best of luck.

Thanks, guys. Removing the entire air box first was too simple a solution for me to think of it.

My shop manual only covers cars through 2005.
