Will keep my 997 and have decided to drive it more and enjoy putting on some miles.... it is an 05 with 20K miles so no use in trying to keep the miles down as the car is going to be worth what its worth in a few years no huge swing either way with an extra 10K plus miles.... Decided to keep it long term and pick up another sports car to have as that special car in the family .... not that the 997 is not special but starting to look at Ferrari's and Lamborghini’s (04-05 Gallardo’s low miles can be had for 100K+ range and same similar year + Ferrari 360's etc...)

I have less of an issue shelling out such $ on a car, + the normal head aches that will come along with such cars but won't be able to deal with the expense and having a car that is always in the shop for one thing or another; maybe better said, want the car will do it less then the other.....

Questions would be, both cars have similar reliability and maintenance issues/head aches equally or is one known to bring on more pain then the other. (yes I am getting ready for pain owning such a car.....)

Any other ownership experiences one can share would be great... thanks all.

Never owned Lambos. Owned several F-cars and the 360/430 are pretty reliable for an exotic. Service is not cheap by any means, but the cars seem to go where pointed. I've heard that Lambos are similar, but no experience there.

If you want to spend that kind of money, consider picking up a GT-2 also. They are far rarer than any F or L and, well....

I have owned 8 stradales since 2004, they are bulletproof, and relatively cheap to drive cheaper than not driving them. care is required in buying one as many are stuffed.

-- and 12 porsches in the same period.

lambo's are in steepest freefall, but can be bought cheap and driven into the ground. i test drove a superleg, but the shifts were terrible and car primitive compared to stradale or scud.

a decent miles strad can be had for 150 and 360's [which arent that sporty] for 85

Have a 09 997 C4S cab and a 07 F430 spider now.

Ferrari is way more exciting to drive while the Porsche is more pleasurable to use. The Ferrari is soul-stirring while the Porsche is efficient and pleasant. Both are very reliable and great cars in different ways.

Watt has me beat (only a few do) as far as switching. it really is much cheaper to switch exotic cars with re-sale value than it is to switch girlfriends/wives.

Further, cars are far more fun in most ways.

Watt, 8 (8!!!) Strads since '04? you da Man! in case i'm looking at one right now that can be had for about 160 with very low miles. a Beauty! really regret trading my 360 for the 430. the 360 is a lovely, voluptuous woman, the 430 is like something that crawled out of the ocean. i really think the Strad (one of them anyway) is a good buy-and-hold (but Lord knows i've been wrong!)

FWIW was at the Lambo store recently (looking for any used gems). they were absolutely packed with new and used Lambo inventory. the GM was hanging on to my leg begging me to buy a very pretty graphite Superlegg. i refused to even test drive it. those cars leave me cold, very cold. i could never put enough gold chains around my neck and have no chest hair

having owned a TT and a 430 Spyder simultaneously i can tell you that at the track it's the other way around!

I have owned 127 cars in the last 10 years, I keep as many as 11 at a time, all of my cars have been moded in one way or another, my Gallardo is RWD and is far more raw and loud than my Ferrari's, my 997S cab is Supercharged and has very few stock items left in it. My wife tells me I am nothing but a kid (an in my 50's one) with big eyes. I hate golf, not to crazy about sitting at the beach, so cars are both my passion and my hobby. If you are going to spend over 100k on a car, it better move you in some way or you're waisting your money.

as for the 430 -- I couldnt agree more. it looks like 4 design teams each did a piece and then slammed it together, the whole is hideous. and the scud's karma as a strad like "race car for the street" is destroyed by the launch of the scud spider, a car for profilers.

The G is more reliable as a whole than the 360/430 and on the whole cheaper to maintain. In my mind, 430>G>360, but that is a subjective decision for you to decide for yourself.

Interesting thread.

I've never owned a Ferrari or Lambo. My next car will very likely be the next gen GT3 with PDK. With the current GT3 driving so well on the road and at the track, I don't see myself wanting a Ferrari or Lambo other than for their badges. But then I can always just buy their T-shirts.

If you are looking for more of a GT car, you may want to consider Maserati. The older GT's with the M/T or the newer GranTurismo with the auto trans are pretty reliable.

The Maser is a big GT car, not really comparable to the above mentioned cars.

+1 I have personally stuck to this model with limited funds. I will always have a Porsche for the track, but aspire to have a 360 for the weekend drives. Today, my 94 Speedster fills that void...
