Default Legroom Solution

Boys,

I am in the same boat here being 6'5". I actually came up with a product because I was tired of being crammed in my 997. I want to help taller drivers like me achieve some level of comfort.

I haven't heard of a steering wheel extender but take a look at my seat extenders at www.extendmyseat.com

The problem with extending the seat back further is the steering wheel will also be further away. I'd like to extend the seat back plus do something to bring the steering wheel closer.

This looks like a good buisiness opportunity for a smart engineer type.

beden1.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like there are quite a few members looking for a steering wheel extender.

Has anyone fabricated one?

Hey that is a great idea....I'm 6'5 too but have some questions for you.

1- does this product raise the height of the seat at all? It looks like it installs over the current rails and might add a .5-1" of height.

2- I have Porsche GT2 Bucket Seats and could use about 1-2" moving the seat back.

At 6'4", I found the standard 911 Carrera didn't fit me too well.

My dealer was extremely helpful....we found that the Carrera S (with Sport Seats and Sport steering wheel) made the difference. The sport wheel is smaller in diameter and the sport seats are kind of scalloped (giving me headroom). I've found the sport seats to be very comfortable as well (but a little more difficult to get in and out of).

With the seat all the way back I find I can still employ the windstop (in my cabrio) while seated very comfortably.

The issue is the electronics in the steering from airbag to pdk paddles or multi function wheels. I asked around a few years ago and know one really knew what could be done.
If I could get the steering wheel 1-2" max closer the wheel would be away from my knees. that and 1-2" more seat travel would be ideal.

seems like carnewal, has an aftermarker aribag wheel that's smaller and available with extenders.

Luckily I'm only 6'2", so getting a 997 instead of a Boxster fixed the problem for me.

The brackets raise the seat .14" (one thickness of metal) and install under the current seat against the floorboard.

The seat rails remain completely operable so you can use one click all the way up to the full 3" depending on your height.

I'm glad I found this thread!

I'm 6"5 and previously had a 997.1 C2S Cabriolet. It had manual seats (which I assume were standard and not sport) with a multifunction standard steering wheel and i was quite comfortable in it.

I sold the car and am now on my second Audi S5 (no legroom issues at all) but miss the 911 so am looking to go back! :-)

So... this week I've been looking at 997.2's and 991's. I sat in 6 or 7 cars in one showroom and NOT one had enough legroom! I was surprised as my only previous 911 experience was the 997 i owned - and it just happened to be the first 911 I ever sat in - which was fine!

I'm now on the hunt for a used 997.2 Coupe (sick of the cab in UK weather) with basic seats (which is annoying in itself) so i can fit in it! (hopefully)

PS - I've also considered a Maser Granturismo as I hear it has more legroom - but I'm sure I'll still long for a 911 - so may as well search long and hard for one as comfortable as my previous model........

Keeping this thread alive.
I just got a 997 (07') C2 with manual sport seats and seems to give me more headroom than any combo I've tried infact I put the seat forward a bit. I'm 6'8" and evenly proportioned eg. not all torso or all legs. I'm keen to add a hub extension or I'll make one.

I am just guessing but I would think that for Porsche to get involved would give them responsibility to
crash test the car (and they don't want to do that)

Here's another mod for tall drivers, but it's not related to steering wheel.
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...rotection.html
I posted this long ago on 6 spd, and there was zero interest.
It is one of the best things I've done with my car, and I don't think it looks bad at all. If other tall folks are interested in more info, just let me know.
If everyone wants to suffer through it, use cataract sunglasses, or turn their hat, then so be it.

Hey guys,
I think our prayers have been answered:
http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalo...cars.html#a583
Looks like it gives you an extra 1.5 cm of steering wheel extension in the 997.
I've pinged the contact for more info and will post it here when/if I receive any.

I hope this will be the answer to my prayers to be able to extend the steering wheel closer to me. I'm eagerly awaiting any information you can acquire.

Default Potential Modifications for Tall People: Steering Wheel Extension (?)

The search continues.

From the site's customer service rep, "unfortunately the steering wheel
spacer kit only fits non airbag steering wheels. Many thanks."
