Did anyone here notice decreased oil consumption switching to 5W-40? I've been reading forever and haven't seen an answer.

New to the 997.2 - My car drinks oil like a 2 stroke, but is not leaking or noticably burning oil... like clockwork, quart every ~700 miles.

Give the Motul Xcess 8100 5w-40 a shot as it is slightly thicker and does not burn off like Mobile 1. I've had better luck with Castrol in my other cars compared to Mobile 1 as well. I just don't think Mobile 1 is all it's cracked up to be. Just my experience...

Default 997 oil loss

I have a 2008 911 4S,40,000 miles, using 1 liter every 700 Miles, Is that acceptable? My left exhaust tips get black and I get a puff of grey smoke when I start up; car runs great.

If only one exhaust tip is getting black and the other is not, that can be a sign of cylinder scoring in one bank of your engine.

You may want to take it in and get the cylinders scoped to check for scoring.

If scoring is found, you may need a new engine.

Both exhaust tips should be black.

Although I believe Porsche says 1 quart of oil per 600 miles is within spec, the single black exhaust pipe is a sign of possible trouble.

Just trying to give you a heads up.

If you do have scoring, it may be time to trade in that car.

Both 997.2 and 997.1 can suffer from cylinder scoring if oil is starved to areas of the engine. The 997.1 also has the potential IMS bearing issue to be aware of...

Get it checked out ASAP if you can.

The 997.2 does not have an IMS bearing so you don't have to worry about that specific problem if you go with the newer 997 variant.
