iPod malfunction ?
Using the iPod interface almost daily in the past 2 weeks, I've found an problem I am having that I suspect is an issue with my particular iPod (an iPod Photo) but wanted to poll the members to see if anyone else is having issues.
The iPod is plugged into the iPod interface in the console with the factory cable, going to the PCM 3 in a 2009 car.
Every once in a while - every other day or so.. sometimes more than once per day, the iPod just locks up. The PCM just stops playing from the iPod, but is still controllable and I can select FM, etc and get audio. I can unplug the iPod, and it is just frozen up. The iPod will display "Ok to disconnnect" but is otherwise totally frozen up. The only way to clear this issue is a reset (holding down the center and top buttons at once for a while till it does a reset).
I'm not sure what the issue is. It could be related to the interface between the PCM 3 and the iPod, or it could just be the iPod, be it its failing or the vibration of being in the console. I don't know.
I'll try it out by listening to the iPod via headphones, or some docking device as well to see if I can get it to reoccur.. which would eliminate the PCM/iPod interface... but that may take some time.
Anyone else having issues like this?

I doubt it is vibration. The HD only spins to fill the RAM buffer. I have an iPod Photo but I do not have an '09. Your iPod may lock up but it is very rare. It could be a flaky cable interface.
Of course... the interface does not charge newer iPods either...

Haven't see any problems using the iPod app on my iPhone, but I don't use it every day.

Try another ipod if you can, see if problem repeats.

Which I've been meaning to do.. picking up another ipod that is a bit more compact. Testing my ipod out of the car and a different ipod in the car with the same cable should shed some light. Once I get some results, I'll report back my findings.

I'm using an old gen IPod Nano and have not had any lockups. I have noticed that every once in a while the PCM is slow to load the songs onto the screen when I search but that's probably just me being impatient.
