DE and a 997S

Burning Brakes
I'll be trying my 997S at a DE this may. Can't wait to try it.
Ron-
I want to use SRF, were you able to flush all the other BF out before installing the new stuff?
Has anyone tried Castrol LMA?? I use this in my race car and have never had a probelm, and it's a lot less $$

997S
I was in the Red run group. The white 997s with the chrome turbo twist wheels. I just started to play with the sport chrono but i did get it to work once and it showed a 1:22.

997S
Sorry about the confusion. I was at Roebling Road last weekend to response to a older post.
I will have to add a note to my findings on the 997S.
As those that know Roebling, there is a double apex at turn 1-2. It is a right hander where you brake, shift to 3rd, rotate and accelerate. The car was so good at rotation thru 2 that I was having a hard time shifting as I was pushed up against the door while trying to shift.
I think the only fix might be to put seats and harness in the car, or I could slow down for the corner. Seats are the better option!!

Ditto on the 997S. I've done over 100 DE days, have had a 996C2, 996GT3, and Boxster. The 997S is very close to my GT3 on the track and is a much better all arounder. Mods have been minor:
- GT3 control arms in the front for more camber (-2.6 front) rear about -2.4.
- 997GT3 air ducts for the front brakes and 996GT2 air ducts for the rear brakes - both very cheap
- stainless steel brake lines
- front toe is 0
- ATE Super blue brake fluid
The only items I am considering next is a LSD and possibly going R-compounds though the MPS2s are very good on the track given that they are street tires.

ECS- good mods to your car, I think I'll do the ducts for now.
As far as brake fluid, ATE is what I'm going to use, but thinking of SRF. I know that they can't be mixed, so a thourough flushing is required to use it.
I use LMA in the FF and it is great, the wet boling point isn't that great, but i use it in the 968 too without any fading and boiling. Maybe I'm not driving hard enough:-)
Just want to know what everyone is running in the 997S

My instructor was giving me a ride in his Boxster during a red group run and you blew past us on the straight right after turn 9. Your car sounded awesome at full song and you were indeed making good time. These cars are fantastic.
BTW, I had the Black and Blue (painters tape on the front end) 997 in the green group. The tape looked funky but it went on and came off quickly. Didn't get a scratch.

Race Miatas do indeed do 1:22 at Roebling. If you have never driven a Miata at speed or raced against one, they are incredible to drive.
I have raced against them many times and that is the primary reason I sold my 914-4 F Prod car. I could not beat them. They are classified in 6 different classes in SCCA and dominate all those classes. Horsepower is not everything. One needs horsepower for race courses that have long and many straights. RR has only one straight and 9 turns. They weigh about 1800#, run on fresh slicks that are very wide and have a cage, no top, and most have 200 hp.
It is the best bang for the buck in SCCA racing.

so if I had a nearly stock 997s with some old slicks should I be happy with 1;22s or am I leaving a lot on the table? Seems to me the power to weight ratio of the 997s is better than the race Miata?

Power to weight is what wins you the straights but tire to weight is what wins you the corners. It's difficult to overstate how enabling it can be to take a tight corner in a truly light weight car.

997S vs MX-5
The horsepower/weight ratio is about the same.
I think I could get the 997S down to 1:19 if i was very bold and had extra $$.
You must take into effect the difference in thinking. With the MX5 , a race car I am driving with a cage in a car that I could walk away from if it is hit. I am strapped in with the lastest 6 point harness, Hans device, in a seat that holds me in, with fellow racers i know on the track
The other extreme is a very new and expensive car, only one payment made, on the course with people I do not know, one regular seat belt, no real racing seat, no hans, no cage. old tires with many heat cycles.
I will take the 1:22 anytime under these conditions.

ECS - We have talked about the LSD before if you act on it let me know.

Found the same myself when I took my 07 C2S out. After the first couple of events bone stock to get a feel for the car, I did the following:
SRF, PFC 97s
GT3 Cup control arms, which got me a great alignment with -2.3 up front.
Fikse Profil 13s w/ RA1s.
That's all it took to make the 997S a highly capable DE machine.
