A guy hit my 997 at approximately 10 mph on the passenger's side rear wheel. Ever since, the tire pressure monitor on the dash indicated air slowly escaping. In about four weeks, it goes from 42 to 35.
These cars can't take a hit at this slow speed, and now the air is leaking? Or I wonder if the pressure monitor is damaged...

I agree with GSIRM3. Any time my TPMS has shown gradually dropping pressure in a tire, it is because the tire is losing pressure. I finally had to replace a problem tire recently due to being worn out, and sure enough, there was a very small screw head looking at me on the surface of the tread. The tire was losing about 3 lbs per week. Since you were hit on the wheel, isn't there a chance that the rim or valve was damaged?

I can see why you're doubting the monitors,--it's a relatively new technology that none of us (save the developers) know the durability and lifespan of. I would suggest that you believe the sensor and assume that it's telling you the truth. Although a pain in the neck for many, I would take the wheel off and subject it to a dunk tank and look for tell-tale bubbles of a slow leak.

My driver side rear TPS sensor has been on crack the last 6 mos. I start it up in the morning it shows 7psi with flat tire warning. As I driver the car the pressure goes from 7psi to 72psi. I checked the pressure the first time it happened and it was fine.

Check the pressure with a guage at the valve. If its pressure is close to what the TPMS is telling you, I'd believe what the TPMS is telling you, that there is a leak.

I checked the tire with a separate monitor (two different ones), and it did lose air. I just called up the dealer and they said no patching since these are perf tires. Mine is 19" 295. So a nail will cost me $500. I am leaning toward patching since I don't track or go over 100 mph

So you did the bubble test to confirm, yes?
Another source of leak can be the wheel is damaged. Those sorts of leaks can only let out air when the car is rolling and a dunk tank may not show that leakage.

doing a search and found this thread...quick question, is TPMS standard on the 2006 911? Directions on how to access tire pressure data is in my owners manual, but I can't pull up the TPC option on my menu.

I have a 2006 911 with TPMS and I believe it shows up as an added option versus standard. The only menus I've seen is from the window below the tachometer where I can set the tire size or reinitialize the entire TPMS system. I don't think I've seen anything else I can do with it.
