Pic Request: 997.2 key please
Is the 997.2 still using an actual key for the ignition?
I am waiting on Porsche to turn it into a FOB and get rid of the protuberant key.
BMW does it well:

mkI key, but you get the idea.
Only difference is the front 'bonnet' button is more recessed so you don't open the damn thing by accident. I'm with you; I'd love for Porsche to do a similar key design; but - Porsche makes it about the 'car'; not the 'doohickys'.

Yeah, same as that pic except all black. Not a big fan of the new recessed button (never had a problem with accidental trunk openings or anything). I personally enjoy having to turn the key to start it up.

When you press a button to start it, associated with the cranking + the exhaust sound, the feeling is even better: it's like starting a plane.
I am exaggerating but it isn't far-off.
Yes Porsche makes it about the car (fully aware of that) but they should also lead not catch-up all the time when it comes to convenience details such as these.
Love the touch-screen in 997.2. That's the way to go.

I have to find a way to stop all the jiggling metal noises that the key makes with the key ring when I go over bumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's ruining my driving experience!!!!!

My beef with the Porsche key is that it doesn't have separate lock/unlock buttons.
Never inadvertently opened the trunk with the old key.
And I'm glad they have stuck with a real key. The 'push button' start is a useless gimmick, IMO, and truly annoying when a key or fob needs to be docked first...extra steps to get the car started is not progress.

Guys, this isn't about the turn the key as opposed to pressing a button; or vice versa. Though I prefer pushing a button at this point. Inserting the key=inserting the FOB. So no extra step involved here.
I do not like the actual key. It's out-dated and it pokes in the pocket.
A FOB (just by itself, I do not keep mine on a keychain) is what I prefer and would like to have on the P car as well.

The separate "lock" vice "unlock" button issue is not really an issue. If you hit the button and don't know for certain that you have relocked the car, in about 30 seconds the issue is moot. It's going to lock it up if you haven't disturbed it by opening a door. But then, you knew that.

I came home after a weekend away to find a homeless person had spent some quality time in my 997. I distinctly remember locking the car; best guess to why it wasn't is that both the wife and I were going in and out of the car before we left, and since we each had keys, both thought we were locking the car...however, due to the key design, one of us unlocked it.
A button each for locking and unlocking...like every other keyless entry I can remember using...is more assuring and more convenient than counting the blinkers to confirm the car is locked.
