It's not expensive to repair RMS. However, PMS is a different story. : )

For decades it was the chain tensioners. (They intentionally didn't fix it because they were getting rich on repair kits).

Then there was the dreaded exploding air box (CIS injection).

With the 964--way too many to list. Ditto with some aspects of the 993.

RMS arrived with the water cooling. I don't think Porsche ever designed it right from the git-go. The Direct Injection engines are SIGNIFICANTLY different. Even the displacements are different than the 05-08 997s. (The 3.8 liter engines are EXACTLY 3800 CCs now). But don't count on this being a perfect fault-free engine. As more miles are accumulated on them on the streets, time will tell.
Well put Dan.
Overall though I think Porsche, like a number of other manufacturers, has come a long way in terms of reliability.
For that matter, my impression from being on this forum for a number of years is that the 997 model has shown very few problems in its first 5 years of production.

And I would welcome one in my garage. Alongside my utterly reliable 993.

If you don't mind could you please post how many hours the Porsche dealer listed on your invoice to repair the RMS when you pick it up?

I just looked at the invoice and my copy has been 0'd out so it doesn't show the labor hours on it. I picked the car up this morning, so they had it 1 day.

I dropped it off at 9:30 in the morning yesterday. I also had a State inspection and a trim peice replace. RMS was covered under warranty.
