Default Nissan GT-R

I saw my first Nissan GT-R in person yesterday here outside Philly. It was flying. It has a very unique exhaust note, kinda of like a vacuum cleaner. Very loud. The shape though is very non-descript. You wouldn't know it's a supercar.

As soon as you watch it's taillights disappear it will become readily apparent that it is a supercar.

One of my best pals has one along with some other cool cars. One of them is a 911 if that matters to anybody.

The GT-R is amazing. Doesn't sound all that great stock but it is just stupid fast - track and street.

Sorry but I have to disagree with that comment. I saw a GTR at a car show last week, and it looked special, at least to me. Granted that it doesn't scream performance, but there are enough clues from the huge exhaust pipes to the flarred wheel wells to let you know that this is a special car.

I have a good friend who is the sales manager at a local Infiniti Dealer, and I was all set to buy the GTR at sticker. The thought then was that the GTR was going to carry the Infiniti logo, but unfortunately for me Nissan got the car, and all of those guys are adding huge Dealer markups. I love the GTR but not enough to pay $20K over sticker.

It's a good car. It's the Jak of all Tradez. It's very good at many things, but not excellent at any one thing.

The GTR Spec-V is going to be interesting, to say the least.

As an owner of a GT-R and a 997, I have to disagree with you. There is not ONE single day that a drive the GT-R that either people stare, slow down purposely while driving next to it, stop and talk to you at stop lights or while filling up, or take pictures/movies with their cell phones while driving on the road. On the first day of driving it I got more positive comments about it than I have ever got in years of driving P-cars. After months of ownership, the comments keep flowing.

I like this one...

And in person - the car does have a great presence. It's not pretty by any means - but they are badass IMO.

If they can figure out how to make a smaller, lighter 2 seat variant I may not be able to resist. And you can buy them for MSRP now.

Great look for the Transformers crowd; not so much for me.

One of our clients brought one around the other day, and I thought it looked pretty serious; quite edgy.

I gotta say that I too was very disappointed the first time I saw a GT-R. Looked like your run of the mill Japanese car to me. My wife was shocked when I told her it is basically as fast as a 911 turbo. I'm not dissing its performance at all but I think it is not a looker. Although if your of the type of eye that finds the WRX and Evos attractive then all bets are off,....I just haven't liked that sort of look since I was in my teens and early 20s.

Why do all that engineering and style it like a Mustang?

Having driven the GT-R and a couple 911's, the GT-R is definitely much faster but I would rather have a Porsche. It may sound a little stupid but speed isn't everything and the 911 is a much more involving car. I would rather have a Carrera S than a GT-R any day of the week.

(Although it must be said that the infotainment system in the GT-R is pretty cool although definitely a gimmick.)

It doesn't sound stupid at all but if you want involvement I wouldn't put the 997 at the top of the list for the $$$.

Get some seat time in an Elise or Exige and the 997 will feel 100% GT vs. sports car.

I love my 997 - but holy cow... there are some really excellent cars out there for those of us who really love them.
