Default Looking for 997.1 oil change DIY

Greetings. Pretty new around here, just got my first Pcar, a 2007 C4S, about two months ago. Some pics are here: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/m...lbums-car.html

I've had to put some kind of ugly snows on it, so I don't have any of my own pics yet...

Anyway, it's about time for an oil change, and I'm keen to do it myself. Is there a DIY for a 997.1 oil change? I searched, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

Default Gushing

CMOS-

Whatever you do, be careful. The warm 8.5 odd quarts of oil comes out with some force.

Have a good deep catch pan and plenty of rags ready just in case.

Don't overtighten the canister for the oil filter. Ask me how I know!

Don't give CMOS too hard a time about the search. The search function on the boards hasn't been working quite right recently.

Welcome to the board, CMOS !

By the way, some of us are able to reach the drain plug and filter without the use of ramps as shown in O C Ben's DIY. You just need a shallow drain pan.

The poster solicited the question (rhetorical as it may be), so others complied.

Yes, we want to know what happened in detail, knowing that the poster did overtighten the cansiter. A play by play would be nice. Broken canister, Ruined threads and oil leaking all over when driving, unable to remove canister for next oil change?..

More than just 'it sucked'.

I have found that the best way to handle oil changes on the 911s (including the ones that take 14 quarts) is to cut down a 5 gallon paint bucket. Measure the height of the plug from the ground and give yourself some finger room to reach in and then cut down an old paint bucket to fit the requirement. I scribe inside the bucket every 2 quarts so that I know what I have removed.

Also, be carefull not to let the drain plug fall into the oil drain pan. I did this on the one I have and the drain plug blocked the drain hole and most of the oil ended up in the driveway and not in the pan.

With the low price of drain plugs, own two, and let it fall into the drain receptacle. Put the other one on the engine and retrieve the first one later when the oil cools.
