Default Navigation - iPod - PSE etc.

So I was contemplating trading my car later this year but have come to the conclusion that's a pretty stupid thing to do in this economy, so I'm keeping it. That means making some smallish changes.

Does anyone know whether you can add PCM + Nav from 997.2 and if so what might the cost be?

Or what the cost might be to add nav to my existing PCM?

Or is it just smarter to buy a portable gps unit?

What is the most effective way to add iPod connectivity and what's the cost?

Finally any idea what it costs to add an on/off switch for PSE? I don;t want to do the "plug" approach as there are times when I want to switch it off to answer a call or just listen to music.

Any help answering the above will be gratefully received.

I can't help with most of your questions but...

I do think that you're much better off buying an aftermarket GPS unit than you are trying to retrofit nav into your PCM.

For one, the factory nav sucks.

For two, portable GPS has come down so much in price that it's probably a fraction of the cost of retrofit and you can take it with you from car to car.

Dension for ipod. It's great.
Most got theirs from Eric @ Bumperplugs.

I'd go with an aftermarket Navigation.

I think adding the wiring and switch for PSE is about a 4 hours job at the dealer. There have been some on the 996 Forum that did a DIY on the wiring and switch, and DIY info is available. Renntech has the TSB for the PSE install.

I agree that Garmin or other after-market GPS is much better and cheaper than adding factory Nav. I believe others have investigated the 997.2 PCM, but it is hugely expensive. Essentially it is not an option. I have a Garmin, and use it more often than the Porsche Nav, as it is quicker to program and easier to follow.

Re PSE, I installed my PSE mufflers and wired in my own control switch. The hardest part was fishing the wires through the grommet between the engine compartment and the interior. It just takes patience. I pulled power source from spare switched position in the fuse box so the system is only active when the ignition is on. I really enjoy being able to turn it off and on at my discretion.

I agree, PCM 3.0 not really an option. PCM 2.1 is a yes, lots of variations though.

I've had NAV in both my 997's - never again. Get a portable GPS, when the technology changes and you want to upgrade it's easy. Plus, most of them are easier to use than the one Porsche installs which IMHO is a POS.

Denison is the way to go for Ipods. That Eric fellow has them and is very helpful.

No idea on the PSE.

Food for thought (slight pun intended): possibly trade in for a used but newer car that has the features you are looking for? I'd agree that its tough to spend $ on a new 911 right now, but the entire used market has taken such a hit across the board that a one or two year old CPO 911 could be a solid value over the life of the 4-5 years its under warranty...

I looked/considered a new..Targa 4S, which runs completely against my preference for rwd. But the Targa is a little more practical than the Cab and in the Midwest when you get sunshine all year round you want to enjoy it. The Cab is dark with the to up so you miss out on sunny days when temps are around - 10F but you don't want the top down in a Cab...

But the $delta is too great at the moment, so I will probably wait/save for 991. Hence get the things I want on the current car.

I second the Dension from Eric... I think he's got the price pretty low right now...

Technically, yes
In reality, no.

You can ask Jeff at Sunset Imports, standard Tequipment option/item.

I would consider the mOBridge unit. IIRC, there is a 2nd group buy going on in the Cayenne forum.
