Should I go with C2S or C4?
It nearly took me a month to decide on color. And now my dilemma is whether to go with C2S or C4.
My original plan was to order a Speed Yellow C4. It will be my daily driver and for that once or twice a year freezing rain/sleet/ice sheets/snow weather that we have here in the DC metro area, I will have the security of the AWD to help me at least get to well-salted roads and highway. The big "BUT" is that it only happens a few times in the winter.
A modestly equipped C4 and a lesser equipped C2S are about the same in price, with the C2S being a few hundred dollars more. Should I take the chance and go with the C2S, or should I get the C4 and know that I will have the peace of mind having the AWD through out the winter?
Thanks for any input.

I'd go with the C2S if I were you. I've driven my C2 in snow and ice on rare occasions and it really isn't too bad at all. If you are only looking at a few poor weather situations a year it isn't worth the performance sacrifice.

Jack,
Iice on the roads... stay home! 4 wheel drive is no better than 2 wheel drive on ice or icy roads. No traction is no traction.... Period!
For a few hundred dollars I would go with the C2S 100 times out of 100. C2S has 385 HP (or 40 more HP than the 4S), 19" wheels, PASM standard. I would upgrade to PASM Sport for $950. It drops the car another 10mm versus PASM and also adds LSD. Plus, with the C2S, you don't get the fugly reflector on the back.

My problem is that it will be used as my daily driver. I have a job where I "have to" go to work, even if it's 10 feet of snow out there. Luckily, we don't get that here. We have an SUV, but that's for my wife and the baby when I take my car to work. I could take the SUV to work, but then that means 1. my wife will be driving the 911 , and 2. it won't be safe for her to drive IF she needs to leave the house on that wintry day.
But first, she'll have to learn how to drive a manual even before getting into the 911.

Drive Both
As other will always tell you, drive both, then decide. I went in looking to buy a Cayman S, but left with a C4.
Like you, I live in the DC area.
While the C2S will do OK with snows, it won't do as well as the C4 no matter how many silly comments about training wheels, etc. some members throw out. The fact is, the C4 did simlar lap times to the C2, so both perform equally well, they just feel different. The C2S will outperform the C4, but are you capable of getting it out of the car? I didn't feel that I was at a point with my driving skills that I could, and I liked the option of 4 wheel with the full leather package, so I went that route. Others would have made a different choice. To each his own.
This is a sickness, you will want something more or different regardless what you do now. It is just part of the plan with Porsche as they give you so many options, and once you buy, you will find options that would be nice to have for the next buy down the road.
Drive both, buy one, and enjoy the car. Good luck, and I hope to see you around town.

Get the C2S and buy some winter wheels and tires. For about 2 grand you can get a set and swap them in November and back again in April. You will never have a problem in snow or slush and you'll have full traction on dry roads in sub freezing weather. Driving on summer tires in below 40 degree days is never advisable even when the roads are dry.
2 Wheel drive with snow tires is 100X safer than 4WD with summer tires. You just can't drive in snow with summer tires no matter how many wheels are powered.

C4 4 me
I too vacillated. I chose the C4 due to Seattle's rain & occasional snow. I bought the car in Texas & drove it back to Seattle. A 2500 mile trip with 2 big snow storms in Oklahoma. I was really grateful to have the all-wheel drive! I have never regretted it. I still put on winter tires, even with AWD.

However to answer your question about a C2S vs a C4...I'd go with the C2S every single time.
