I have 5 cars, 2 quads, motorhome and a bobcat. All on Batt. tenders all winter long. Red light comes on for 1 day after driving then goes green. Meaning battey full. I've had the same Porsche battery in the 968 for 7 years now. The C2S is new to me, but i suspect same results.
Hey, Bob ...
I have 4 motorcycles, 4 cars, couple lawn tractors and a vibrator on various types battery tenders.
My choice is the $18.95 deals I bought from Wally World. Cheap little machines that seem to work well. Red light .... charging, Green light ... charged. I've never had one 'die' .... yes, made in China. Like most stuff.
One of the lawn tractors has had one for over 5 years straight. Still cranks like new.
Screw the more expensive models .... just go to Wally World and buy several.
Mine works fine except the red light stays on all the time with the new car and with my last car the light would go off after a few hours. I guess there is some current draw happening but the car fires up instantly after sitting a week. I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks everyone
With mine, the red light will stay on while charging, but will stay on even when fully charged. If your battery is fully charged, cycle through the settings while the car is on the charger, and the light will magically turn to green if the battery is truly charged. Works every time. Unless your battery is truly shot - I know, I've been there.
I'm disillusioned with the plethora of strings on battery / alternator / discharge issues in these cars. And my new 997.2 hasn't even been delivered yet! A day doesn't go by without some poor guy posting a "HELP, my battery died" plea. I just hope I'm one of the lucky guys without electrical problems.
Porsche needs to notice at some point that they're falling way behind less, um, arrogant carmakers in the battery and ignition area. Don't they have an EE on staff? How hard can it be if a Honda Civic starts first time, every time for years and years, no matter how you abuse the battery? Put an engineering team on the problem and eliminate the problem, I would think. But I'm just a dumb American. . .
Same thing happened with Leica cameras, another of my hobbies: Leica just kept telling us that the whole digital photography thing was a passing fad. We all know how that turned out.

I've had 5 Porsches and never an electrical issue. This is about a battery tender no big deal.
Lots of Porsches sit for a week or multiple weeks without being driven. That's where the problem comes from. Daily driver Porsches have no problem with the battery lasting for 5 years or more.
I just replaced my battery after 4 years and I travel on business every week so my car sits for 4-7 days without being started every week. I don't use a battery maintainer. That lack of use is abnormal and I am not disillusioned that the battery died.

No worries, it is not electrical problems. It's just modern cars have a whole lot more gadgets. Funny you mentioned Honda Civic, because I had a 1st gen CRX. The original battery lasted 7-8 years! Granted it didn't have much other than lights, radio, and AC. No power windows, door locks, and of course none of that computer goodies. On the other hand, I have an Odyssey now, it is quite common for the batteries to go in 2-3 years. Plus the fact many Porsches are not driven daily or some, even weekly. So I think it's fair to say batteries don't last as long as they used to be because there are more things draining it.

We already traded comments on another forum... and as you can see here, others agree with me. Order a battery maintainer while you wait for your new car and enjoy your car when it arrives!
Must not have had my meds when I wrote that post Being deprived is making me wiggy!
I'm all about getting stuff ready for when my baby arrives. I even dreamed I was driving it last night -- too fast and too close to a highway barrier!
Do you recommend the Ctek tender / charger that also has permanent wiring for the battery terminals? I read on one of these fora that you can just tuck the wire under the bonnet and run it out and plug it in without implicating the trunk light.
I recommend a "pig tail" with an inline fuse. Just attach it to the batter and you can plug in the battery tender of your choice ... most pig tails come with a trailer connection, not a coax.
I have these pig tails on all the vehicles listed above. EZ to attach to the battery and EZ to battery tender. I like the fuse in this set up, too.

You can plug the tender into the permanent pigtails and still leave the hood open. If you arm the alarm, the trunk light goes out in 10-15 minutes.
