'09 engines fuel pump failure?

Do You Want a Job?
The service manager called me and asked "do you want a job?" Before I could accept he told me my diagnosis of the HPFP was spot on and a replacement had been ordered. With luck I will have the car back on Friday.

I am glad that it is a one time fix, some BMW owners are reporting multiple HPFP failures.

The last parts they needed, gaskets for the cooling system since they have to drain the coolant arrived today and they are trying to get it finished this afternoon. I saw it on the lift and talked to the Tech, no promises they can get it done.

HPFP failure at 4300 miles
Hi All, I'm new to the board but thought I'd post as well after reading what everyone else had said about this issue. I have a 2009 C4 cab, took delivery in April and had all of the issues mentioned already (long crank time to start, sluggish/stuttering, reduced power mode).
The dealer confirmed it was the HPFP today (after initially suggesting it might have been bad gas or a loose gas cap - ok, sure . . . bad gas would eliminate all torque and prevent the car from going faster than 50 mph?) and, with luck, I'll get the car back tomorrow.
Interestingly, the car had some issues starting from day one so I'm hoping that the new pump will resolve the issue. This is my first Porsche and, other than this issue, I love the car. I have a feeling this is just something of a teething issue that can arise early in a model update cycle.

No pumps in America, 3 days to get one from DE
Thanks Vexed, I appreciate the support. I am guessing from the fact that they don't have any HPFPs in the US that this issue is not all that uncommon.
Being without my car for a week isn't the end of the world, particularly since they put me in a 3.2 TT. Definitely not in the same league as my C4, but it has proven to be a lot quicker than I would have expected.
Actually, this raises a question that I am curious about . . . do Porsche dealerships normally give Porsche loaners?
My dealer is also an Audi dealer and this is the second time they have given me an Audi as a loaner. My previous car was a S4 cab so I'm more than OK with it but (of course!), I'd love to get another Porsche while mine is in the shop.

At about 3K miles My 09 CS started running rough- then the check engine light came on. It was the HP fuel pump.
I was told that there would be about a ten day wait for the part as there "were none in the US". After I complained in a call to PCNA they agreed to overnight a new pump. Thanks to a good local dealer, I was back on the road in four days.
Ps This is my first post and I have found this and other threads (i.e. oil usage) in this forum to be very, very helpful.

Long cranking when trying to start the car. That was my initial symptom. If you are driving the car and the HPFP fails the car goes into limp home mode and the reduced engine power warning is activated.

I imagine the manufacturer's schedule of producing these is fixed and they cannot just order another couple hundred for immediate delivery at will. Remember, they are still building new cars, and the revised pumps are going into those cars as well. Its likely a supply chain issue until they can get a slot to have a batch of 'spares' made for the current installed-base of questionable pumps.
