Default DIY Oil Change Question

I change the oil on all my vehicles, and always have.

I have already changed the oil and filter on my P-Car. It was very straightforward. It was just a tad tight getting under the vehicle, but other than that, no big deal.

Now, I have discovered a cleaner and faster way to change the oil on another vehicle I own...my MZB GL 320 CDI. I purchased a Pela Oil Extractor, and changing the oil is as easy as placing a line in the dipstick tube and pumping the oil out. In fact, this is the authorized MZB method for changing oil in this vehicle.

Question: Will this method work in my 997? I am thinking it may have a dry sump, but then again, it does not have two oil drain plugs like the TT, which does have a dry sump. I can always crawl under the P-Car and remove the oil plug, etc, etc. But if I can avoid that, it would be nice.

997 or 997S = wet sump and no dipstick.

997S. And you are correct. There is no dipstick tube. I hadn't even considered that. Boy, do I feel dumb.

Oh well, back to crawling underneath.

Thanks.

I do my own oil change and use something called Race Ramps. I use 4 of the Roll Ups, one under each wheel to keep the car level and it gives nice access for oil drain and filter. This size is not so long as to make storage a pain when not in use and is also easy to get the car onto and off. They do not let me crawl under the entire car - would need another model of Race Ramps for that - but for oil changes this works for low cars with drain and filter access close to the front or rear. I use them on 4 different cars, so cost is amortized. I got them a few years ago and they have held up well.

I must have freakishly long arms. I just lay on the ground and wrench the plug and oil filter off and on.

You have to pump that extractor - MityVac sells one that runs off your air compressor (if you have one).
