Default 2005 977 S cab with tip, good deal?

I am looking at buying a 05 997 S cab. yellow/black , 16k miles, nav,chrono, Bose, very clean...$53k

I love the car but it is tiptronic. All my previous P cars were manual.

Do you guys like the tip. ? How's the resale on them?

Thanks,

Vlad

If you have already owned manual why would you even consider a tip, unless it's a daily driver and you fight through city traffic. For greater driving pleasure go with the manual, for comfort in traffic go for a tip.

Not to sour a deal but personally I avoid first year cars because there are always issues with them. While not significant on the 997, there are a few issues with the 2005s. Wait 6 months and then look to an 06,--and get the 6-speed. Don't settle.

The tip in our '06 Boxster leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps the bigger HP in the 911 overcomes the draw backs, but the manual is far more fun. PDK is another category.

Plenty of debates on the Tiptronic/manual on this forum. My personal opinion after owning one for four years is that it is awful, especially considering the shifter and clutch on the 997 are sublime.

And contrary to what Edgy01 says, there were no 'first year issues' with the 997; the only one I can think of is the improved sunroof wind deflector starting in 2006, but it is easily retrofitted and of no concern if you are looking for a cab. There were more options available on the 997 after 2005, but I wouldn't consider that an 'issue'.
