Gorgeous car - the back seats are almost as much as a joke as in our 911s though.
We have 2 A5s on the lot if anyone is interested.

Also have an S5 coming in on Monday - Black on Black, w/Bang Olufsen, Nav, and the Technology package.

I have driven the S5 on two occasions and was surprised by how heavy the car felt. Granted it's 4WD and i'm coming from a c2s but the weight was still dramatic. The interior is super lux i agree. Back seats are as vestigial as the 997. Metallic black with the magma red interior is the sex! I'm perfectly happy with my 997 as a daily driver but to each his own.

Just bought an '09 S5 about 2 weeks ago. Beautiful lines, inside and out. Had an '01 A6 2.7t for many years and loved it. Plowed through more snow than any car/suv I've ever had. Am a big Quattro fan.
Drove the new M3 several times and was very impressed. Came across this S5 and bought it the next day. M3 and S5 are not really in competition with each other.
S5 has good power, not great. That is, compared to the V8 M3 or the 997.2. But it has its charms. Great shape, incredible interior, lots of tech gadgets, awesome highway cruiser.
Would love to give you more info, but I've only put 300 miles on it so far. Weather has been pretty rough and it comes with summer-only tires. Should have the snows on in a few days.

My wife want to replace her '01 BMW 330ci convertible with a new 135i convertible. I am trying to convince her to instead get the new Audi A5 convertible that comes out this spring. The 135i is a hot car but the convertible kind of looks like a bathtub. The A5 is more expensive than the BMW but it sure looks great, inside and out.

This is great feedback everyone, thank you. I'm on my 5th 911 (993) now and after two 996's as DD's I'm patiently waiting for the next all new body in white version. I think Porsche would be making a big mistake if the 991 isn't based on an all new platform but that's for another thread. I've also had lots of seat time in 997's, 997GT3's and even our old Cayman S shop car with a 997S 3.8 X-51 transplant (why Porsche doesn't offer a GT3 version of the Cayman S is just stupid but that too is for another thread).
The advice to wait for the supercharged V6 is very good indeed and as much as I love the idea of the V8 roar I know full well the new engine is a significant step forward in every way most notably in fuel economy.
My problem with cars has always been the need for immediate gratification once I have a bee in my bonnet!
Time will tell.

Instant gratification, you say? Then head down to your local dealer and pick up a low mileage 997. I've never seen so many available and at sig discounts to just a year ago. Run it hard and then trade it in when the market stabilizes and you'll see min depreciation. A no brainer. dave

I haven't spent much time in them, only sat in them on the lot. I was just surprised how small they are for such a big car.

Something else about the Audi that annoys me is that the throttle isn't hinged on the floor. I'm not crazy about the angle on the C pillar either. Don't get me wrong though, I think the Audi is a nice car and certainly wouldn't be upset if I owned one, it's just that if I have a choice I'd rather drive a Porsche or BMW but then again, I look for more driver's qualities in a car.

here's a car that has my attention - the S5 Cabriolet. Great combo of beautiful design inside and out, driving excitement, fuel efficiency, and practicality.

I bought my S5 as a winter car and have had it for about two months and have to say I just love this car... sure it is not perfect, but over all it has everything I need it for. As far as winter driving it will go anywhere with snows on it. If you are on the fence about waiting for the 3.0T motor go drive the V8... you wont duplicate that sound with a blown V6. Good luck!

I too am seriously thinking of getting one but I may just wait for the V6 with DSG. Just love the looks.
