I'm pretty sure only Continental and Pirelli make the 18" tires Porsche NO approved in the right size. So your choices are very limited. I have the Continentals and they are fantastic in snow, slush, and on ice. Handle well on dry roads, no noise, and don't wear quickly at all. I'm very happy with them! No experience with Pirelli.

I have the n rated pirellis in 19" and they are phenomenal. -- I would guess 18 would be the same.

BUT don't be lulled into a false sense of security with any snow tire on a 911. anything more than a 2-3" snowfall, and snow tires or not, the car will become a very expensive and slow snow plow.

All the snow piles up underneath it and lifts the car off the ground so all the eight over the rear wheels suddenly doesn't matter.

But snow or not - I definately recommend snow tires to anyone that drives in any temps below 5 degrees, as the Z rated factory tires are useless below that. Even at 100% tread .

respectively disagree, I have been dring 991's for 12 years in Ohio winters and find they are excellent snow cars. The only problem is the low clearance, but even they thery act like a snow plow and push the snow out ot the way

I don't know what bizarre world folks live in where 2-3 inches of snow causes a plowing effect on a 997.

I've been driving my 997 out of the driveway with 6 inches of snow.. .no problems. Measure the clearance, its a good 8-9 inches. That said, once on the road, the snow is all packed down to a solid sheet, but the Targa 4 on Michelin Alpin tires gets grip like a champ. The only danger is when trying to turn ... there, nothing helps but going very slow... physics is against you.

I'd have no problem driving the 997 through 5-6 inches of snow at all.. so long as you go slowly in the powder.

I have brand new Nokians WR in 18". I did not know much about them and did a lot of research also. What I came away with, is that they are a hard find (none at tirerack), but people who have them swear by them. It was by accident that one of the Porsche dealers had them on the snow and tire package (yes they are NO spec). Don't have too many miles on them so far, but uptil now I am impressed especially with the road feel and not much softness (going from 19 to 18s). Havent really driven them through 6-8" 0f snow, but yes thru slushy and wet roads, and they hold pretty well.

I just wanted to add a comment here,--seems in line with this subject. I congratulate those of you inquiring after snow tires for your 997s. While so many park their cars (due to necessity with snow depth or whatever) those of who actually DRIVE there cars in this stuff will come to be better 911 drivers because you're getting to experience what it is to drive these things in their true element. I'm always entertained by the car ads that state "never driven in or seen rain." (How does one know if the wipers even WORK!?) Simply driving these cars in perfectly dry conditions makes you a lesser 911 driver. (Okay,--I'm ready for the spears!)

You should buy my used set. They are ready to go and are in storage in Arlington Heights (I bought my car in Chicago earlier this year). If you search on my posts you can see the pictures. PM me.

Thank you,
Rick

Conti TS810S. And I've just driven mine up through 5" of snow in Michigan without turning in to a snow plough. Not a problem.
