Default PCM/NAV Update Question - Early MY2005 Build 997's

Are there any MY2005 early build members in this forum that have upgraded their PCM 2.1 (Standard Version: 04035xxxx) and NAV DVD? If your PCM lacks the SOS button, SIM slot, etc you have the initial PCM 2.1 release (ie. Standard Version) and that's the one I'm querying about.

I believe the required steps are to first update the PCM Standard Version to Level A (using Porsche disc #00004320546004) and then update both PCM followed by the NAV to the latest levels (using NAV update disc(s) kit #99704490151).

If you've done the upgrade or have had the dealer do it can you share any information regarding problems, issues, etc with me. You can reply to this thread or send me a private message if you like.

I'm considering doing the update but don't want to throw $300 at it if it's going to be a major understaking, problematic or cause issues. I'm an experienced DIY'r so I'm not concerned w/ my ability to go through the update procedure and/or the required steps.

I searched all the forums and can't find any threads covering this early build 2005 PCM/NAV upgrade so please don't answer w/ 'go do a search'.

Thanks in advance for any information or help.

Am I hearing (not) that nobody has ever updated their NAV/PCM in a early VIN 2005 997?

Amazing!

If you check over at Renntech, you'll find lots of information from people who've done done the upgrade in various forms.

Thanks . . . I did a search in that forum as well but found no specific answers regarding upgrading the '1st Release of the 2.1 PCM'. I just posted the same inquery there.

I have an early '05 C2 build ( Launch Ed.) and I purchased the $300 discs and had the dealer install in June.

Thanks for the feedback. You're the only Rennlist member (so far) that has implemented an upgrade and/or has responded.

I sent you a private message regarding your install over the weekend.

Thanks again.

What advantages/features does the Nav Update offer over the original software? Is it really worth all the hassle that seems to accompany it?

I have a Launch Edition C2S, and the Nav seems to be working acceptably. I generally am of the "if it ain't broke..." school on things like this. Should I reconsider?

The update has newer maps, more POI's, etc. I believe it also has some enhanced multimedia features too. It also will accept (additional expense according to the bulletin) the Electronic Logbook and Off-Road Navigation (trace or what's sometimes called 'bread crumbs').

I too have a 2005 Launch Car. It still has the initial PCM (no phone features) and Standard Version Software (ie. initial release).

I agree with 'if it ain't broken . . . . '. I've got this itchy hair in my a** regarding upgrades and updates. If I can't sort out the configuration gotcha's to my satisfaction I'll just live w/ the version I currently have. If you want a copy of the install documents send me an private message w/ your email address.

I have a launch car I bought on launch day and have never updated it, and doubt I will. Usually I know where I am going anyway, and I probably would not have even ordered NAV if I ordered a car (although having it for several years has been nice and I would want it in my next car). I can get all the POI's I need with my Blackberry / Verizon NAV.
