I just don't get it....
Drove to work today and parked next to a Merc S550 that was rebadged as an S63 AMG (could tell by the exhaust tips).
Yesterday, at a traffic light I was stopped behind a BMW 335 with an "M" badge on the back.
Last week my own neighbor put an "S" insignia on the grill of his Audi A8!
Tonight while skimming ebay, I stumble on this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...spagenameZWDVW
WTF?

It's alluring to feel better about ourselves driving our wonderful cars, but ultimately i think we are better served by enjoying the car and its performance in of itself instead of allowing it to overly fuel our egos.
I work at a large technology company founded by a (now) billionaire that drives a POS car probably worth < 10k, and am sometimes humbled that I drive a much nicer car (Porsche) then this fellow who can buy multiple Gulfstream G5 jets in cash and yet chooses to understate himself by driving a simple car and flying coach (versus a re-badger, on the other end of the spectrum, who is trying to overstate himself).

Maybe these cars are owned by the leaders of these US failing financial institutions. They tell the public one thing, but in reality, it is anything but ...
Hey at least the car on ebay was a Porsche ... and a Carrera at that ... at least I think it was a Porsche

Why not? I put KLEEMAN badges on my New Holland tractor
It's prob his pride and joy and he has no idea (or care) what the world thinks of him. Only way he will make out is to find another poser to buy it.
A few weeks ago at autocross some tool with a 997 (non S)comes over to me while I was sitting in my RS and looks inside. Wow! We have the same car, but you paid a lot more money for yours. Experience told me not to waste the oxygen trying to explain the differences to him. I just said you're right, other than the body, sunroof, suspension, interior, transmission, and engine, they are the same.

No kidding! They're exactly "the same!" Gotta love it.

I remember in my "light to light" days kids would put fuelie badges on their Corvettes, or change the engine type badge on their Impalas. Never could understand that, as the car wasn't what it was supposed to be when the hammer came down. In the Muscle car era, it was preety cool that most all the manufactures made sure the badging was displayed somewhere on the car to show which engine the car had.
Porsche, on the other hand has never done any badging for X50 or X51, only S models, which I never could figure out, growing up in a different era.

When I was 22 I had a rusty old Datsun 310GX that I bought for $150. A friend took a black magic marker and wrote "intercooled turbo" under the 310GX. I left it there because it was pretty damn funny.
