My first guess is because not enough customers were choosing that color to justify the setup costs. I've only seen a handful of other Cobalt Blue Porsches in the last few years; most owners seem to opt for more traditional colors (e.g. Guards Red).
It's a shame too, Cobalt is just an amazing color. Strangers have gone out of their way to complement it.

Nicely done. My first 911 was Iris Blau - I think I may go blue for my next 911.

Yeah - Cobalt FTW!!!!
I parked my cobalt S cab with the top down in an open area of a Whole Foods parking lot the other day. Upon returning I noticed a balloon white lambo parked half a stall away on one side of my car and a 500 series Merc resting one spot away on the other side. I've noticed this phenom before, often when I park in an open area - other "nice" cars seem to get attracted to it. Safety in numbers, I guess.
As I neared the cars I also noticed a well dressed, elderly (80+ probably) lady with a cane standing between my Porsche and the Lambo. As there were no other cars in reasonable range of the threesome of vehicles, it looked like she either belonged to the Lambo or she was about to start jacking my Porsche.
A bit disconcerting, she was peeking into the cabin of my car, but turned to me casually as I unlocked it with the remote.
"That's a very pretty car - I really like the color" she gushed as she turned to me. "It's a really nice change from all the boring colors you see these days - like this white lambo..." (Lambo - she said lambo!). We exchanged some pleasantries and I drove away.
But I had to circle around the lot a bit, just out of curiousity to see which car was hers. Sure enough - a couple of minutes later a nifty combover in Tommy Bahamas fetches her into the Merc.
Shame. I woulda love to have seen her roll away in the Gallardo.

gt3's can do any color really well
power in numbers is a good safety idea in a parking lot. i'll always park out by the ferrari's lotus' and porsches at the mall. i've parked my stealth tt(comparable in performance to a carerra) in a row of vipers porsches vettes and ferrari's, not one of us got a scratch.
i loved the cobalt, and always wanted it, now i guess i'll have to get used if i want it
nice car.

Yes I have to admit I am a bit partial to the color as well AS I CANT STOP STARING AT IT!! :-)
I see from the collection of pics, that we are all a bit partial to the darker wheels too :-)
My mind says to sell it, and wait for a used 997.5 to come up as the price drop in the 997 will be steeper as the new models come, but everytime I drive it, I think to myself "how will I manage 1 year with this exhaust note"... I am torn. And now, as the markets meltdown to nothing I am pretty sure the bids for such cars are becoming more scarce. Remember this is a $150k used car in Greece...
