Brief Comments About the GT-R & 997

Saw my first GTR tonight. Followed it for about 3 miles (in my P/U) through light traffic. I was not at all impressed with the looks although the back looked muscular and it had a nice exhaust note. You could really tell their was something under the hood. A Camaro was giving chase and the GTR would effortlessly walk away from it in brief bursts from stoplights. It was a white car and perhaps the color didn't do it justice. It is a big car too. I think Ill go down to the local dealer for a closer look. Nice to finally see one on the road though.

Well lets see here now....in a couple of years the GT will be a Nissan...and the 997 will be a PORSHAAAA. Simply no comparison, ugly big box car compared to the ultimately sports car, lets not discuss this seriously ok everyone.

I suppose sometimes ignorance truly is bliss.

Agreed, but there is some truth. Not many vintage Datsuns/Nissans can hang like an old Porsche when it comes to retaining value.
My biggest gripe is the markup thing - $30-50K is a lot of money for the privilege of owning a GT-R. The mere second the car drives off, that money is *poof* gone. It's hard to get my mind around that...

I've had two Datsuns. Sold both for more than i paid for them. (both were killer BRE/Mulhulland 510s)
Simply saying it's still a "porschaaaaa" is moronic. That kind of **** makes me cringe. It's like those idiots on the VW forums who believe that anything made in Der Vaterland is > any other car. Give me a break.
Right there with you on the markup - I'd pay MSRP but no more than that.

I don't care how fast the GT-R is...it's just too big and ugly. Too bad it doesn't look like their G37 coupe...

Agreed. I actually sort of like Nissans (had a little pickup through college and grad school that I loved). But it looks like a cubist sea lion. I don't care if it sounds like a CGT with straight pipes and beats an F1 car around the Top Gear track--it would have to have the power of flight for me to buy one.

Did you get a bowl of rice with delivery? Performance aside, I am no doubt a snob The car is made in japan, looks japanese and will always be considered a ricer car....I'll take a "slow," bad azz turbo any day of the week over that car

It is a rice burner pure and simple. It really does not compare to a Porshaaa..yes a Porshaaa. In a couple of years it will be a rice burner and only a rice burner. A BIG UGLY rice burner.

I must admit that I am not crazy about the styling of the GT-R but am still astounded by its performance,.... especially considering how large the thing is.
I would think the only bad thing about owning a GT-R would be getting all the thumbs up and mini-burnouts from the 'ricers.' I would consider this a deal breaker!

Had you stayed in school, you wouldn't have had to shovel ****.

Loved those little cars. L18 SSS in the first one and L20B in the 2nd one. Definitely surprised a few people.
Of course they were tinny as all get out and girls hated them (completely unlike the 997 ) but I loved 'em for what they were.

When girls hate a car (for example, my Evo), then you KNOW it's great!
