Unhappy Check Engine Light...again

Got the damn CEL again today. That's twice in the last three weeks.

Brought it in and they cited code P0456 - Evap System - Small Leak. They smoke tested the system but no visible leak was detected. They eventually replaced the fuel tank flange (which houses a valve apparently) and that cleared the problem. That's what it said on the service slip.

Last time it was an improperly connected carbon canister "not clipped to line properly."

With only 11,000 miles, it seems odd to me to have two unrelated CELs in three weeks. Unfortunately, when I picked the car up, the techs were gone, so it's hard to know whether these two CELs so close together are just a bad coincidence or whether they might be related.

I don't have the mechanical smarts to know what these issues really are, but how does a flange go bad so soon or a carbon cannister not be hooked to the line correctly?

Any ideas?
