Default Help - my C2S won't use any oil!

Well, it's about 3k now since I acquired this nifty '06.

Oil level still sits at full.

Is this something I can claim coverage for under warranty?

I have to admit that I'm damn disappointed - I'd expect far, far better oil consumption from a Porsche. If this keeps up it'll be back to the Lambo camp for me...

Sign up for a track day or autocross. That'll "fix the glitch"

Mine does not burn oil either. It took me 4 track days at Sebring to bring the level down just 1 line.

2000+ miles on mine since I got it with 9000 on it. Fairly aggressive street driving. No oil usage yet. High class problem.

I'm at a little over 4k miles now on my '08 C2S and I've had very little oil consumption, I think. I've seen two bars down twice, but when I let the car sit for a while I can get it to show full or one bar down. I'm a little concerned by the fluctuation of the measurement, but I'm pleased that my car doesn't seem to be an oil hog - I haven't added any oil yet.

There was a very good poll awhile back on oil consumption on these little beasts. The vast majority of the 997 engines use no oil. Remarkable when you consider what you do to them. A small subset uses some oil, perhaps a quart every 4-5000 miles. And then there is the quart per thousand crowd, and even the quart every 400 mile crowd. Count your blessings.

Mine was an oil sucker for 24,996 miles. And then my service manager put in a quart of magic oil**. Viola! Oil consumption went WAY down. From a quart every 1000 miles from the day it was new to something I would estimate to be a quart every 6000 miles. I don't exactly baby it either.

I just use the standard factory fill,--Mobil 1 0-W40.

** Mobil 1 0-W40

Trade it back in for a Boxster: if you're prone to anxiety, then you'll have good reason to worry about opening the garage door every morning. (mine wasn't afflicted with RMS syndrome)

Was expecting to use some oil, but none so far at 5500 miles and 3 track days.

Or course, Lowe's is pretty easy on the car, but CMP challenged her a little.

Even aggressive (5500-6500 rpms) on the street and maybe one notch down on the gauge. As soon as I find the dip-stick, I will take a closer look

wetstuff - the boxster motor is the same as the 997 motor - only difference is the displacement. 997s have RMS failures too.

You might want to get a 993. (gasp!)

I put about 1/2 a quart in mine this past weekend. Live vicariously through me.

Just over 5K miles since my last change and I still have all my bars.

I sometimes question the accuracy of the 'electronic dipstick' but I suppose it's working just fine. No way to really tell other than draining the motor/sump and measuring the amount.

34k miles, including a handful of track days each year, and I've never seen less than full bars.

Ohhh Gundo! Nooooooo! "....the boxster motor is the same as the 997 motor - only difference is the displacement. 997s have RMS failures too."

Can't be?! ...I don't remember seeing a post here about RMS? ...except maybe for people asking prior to 997 purchase about them. I cannot imagine the Type-A's here letting that pass.

The only thing under my car are three pieces of Tom Cat rat bait...

Sorry. M97 used in the 997 is nothing more than an evolution of the M96. 997s do have RMS leaks - seem to be fewer as a result of new seal, but the have the same design none-the-less. GT2, GT3, GT3 RS and Turbo all use a different block all-together - bunch of the GT3 and GT# RS guys are having RMS issues as I type.
