The new 997.2 comes with a totally revised engine and a new PDK. Will 1st production year have problems? Will you wait a year or two to buy, to shake all the gremlins?
I see this is a duplicate question - sorry. The other thread refers to PDK, I'm also interested in engine issues.

Ordered my 09 last week. Don't expect any more problems than usual.

The 997.2 is different from a 1st year 996 or 997. In those cases the whole car was new, and body issues are trickier. In this case is a n engine and a transmission. I am more inclined to think that these items were sorted out already.

We're talking a few tweaks here guys; not an entire change. There will be minimal issues.
Also keep in mind that Porsche is ranked #1 with JDPowers- 3 years in a row. They're more reliable then Lexus and MB.

All the internal components are new, the block and case have been redesigned and in some cases integrated together to reduce the number of engine components. Bore and stroke are new on both the 3.6l and 3.8l versions and the oil system has been completely overhauled to avoid a repeat of the problems with the 996 and 977 engines. The new motor uses 40% less parts and 22% stronger. It is now stronger then the dry sump engine in the GT3’s which the rumor going around is that this same engine will be put into the new GT3.

from 986 to 996, then 986S, 996MKII, 997 and 987 at the same time.
porsche is def. managing their changes better and better. i have no doubt that 09 will be just as good as 997MkI

I've had my C4S since Feb 2009. I've since used it as a daily driver, and my wife and I drove it cross-country to attend the Monterey Historics. While there, I did a couple laps of Laguna Seca, plus untold hours enjoying all the fine roads in that area. The only problem I've had was a CEL for evaporative loss (gas cap), but I'm a stickler about tightening the cap, so I still don't buy that as the answer. Other than that, it's been a trooper. I really like this car enough that I might keep it long-term, which for me is really saying something.
