Not trying to be a jerk or anything but I don't understand what this is for?? I mean that. While we talk of adding carbon bits to save weight etc. I am at a loss of the value this product brings... clearly it is a product of excellent quality, I just don't understand it's use... how often are we owners denting our trunks / hoods from the inside?

I think that 911s have a good history of denting the hoods from the inside out.
For me, it adds that little extra bit of cushion against my inflatable spare.
As for weight, I don't think it weighs more than 2-3 pounds,....about the same as a good meal!

I'm glad you asked-As someone who once was resposible for repairing the damage- it occurs far too frequently. Now lids are aluminum and more vulnerable. We have testimonials from customers who have had damaged caused by a water bottle to a misplaced wrist watch. You can also just take a close look at some hoods -as far as the weight-2.8lbs., too much?
