anyone have one? If you read the 997 GT3 page you can see it is an issue. My GT3 is in for its second seal in three+ weeks and it may be time to consider a 3.8 engine in a Carrara S as a fix. ... but would I ever miss the GT3

Calm down. An RMS seal is not an engine, nor even would lead to an engine failure. I would rebuild a GT3 engine in a heartbeat over having them put a 997 engine into a GT3. The RMS is way over blown.

Sorry to poke the bear but unless your car is white, it's spelled carrEra.

I had a 996 C2 and a 996 GT3 both had RMS issues. I have had my 997S with 13K miles now and no RMS leak. From what I have heard, Porsche has made great strides with the gasket in this model year. However, I don't know if that statement is relevant to the 7GT3. Apparently not.

Isn't is true that after 3 RMS repair failures on a 911 then you need to replace the engine. Thoughts?

I hope RMS threads and posts do not infect the 997 forum the way they have infected the 996 forum.
It actually is not all that difficult. RMSs can fail for various different reasons:
1) proper installation of a defective seal;
2) improper installation of a defective seal;
3) improper installation of a non-defective seal;
4) failure due to oil seeping around seal that has shrunk due to lack of use (perhaps in combination with one 1-3), which can cause minor leaks to come and go over time; or
5) problem with the case.
Multiple leaks can mean that you have had bad luck (i.e., various occurances of causes 1-4) Or it can be evidence that you need a different motor. They can measure your case at the dealership to determine whether you need another motor.

My '06 997 C2 went in for it's 2 year check and the Service guy said that they saw some oil around the seal and that they will keep an eye on it. Rats, I bet next year the car will be in to get the RMS replaced.

Mine was replaced under warranty after 2,000 miles. I was told that the seal was redesigned to ensure fewer occurances. It may only be a seal, but it's costly to get at it and replace.

There is no circumstance under which you should consider that type of engine swap. No way no how. Nope. If anything I guess you could ask Porsche to replace your GT3 engine with a replacement GT3 engine.
