The sad thing about overdesigning is that the basic idea and parts of the design are truly beautiful. It is like they just didn't know when to stop. It reminds me of the Vorsteiner car mickfluff posted yesterday.
This car could have been a modern update of the old ferraris . . . clean, sleek, and strong lines that refer back to Ferrari's heritage. Imagine this car without that weird squiggle on the side and maybe even round headlights? Remove the hood scoop and the side venting along the rockers and the car becomes truly beautiful.
Too bad I do not have photoshop or I would go to town on that car.

If you look at it from the side, the current version looks like a ramp connected to a square. I think it would look much, much better if they rounded off the rear of the car more in both directions, even if they retain the flat deck spoiler. In any event, the headlights should be fixed (I think of someone pulling up their eyelids everytime I see it), the weird squiggle on the side must be eliminated, and the scoop near the rockers is unnecessary. Then the car starts to look much nicer IMO . . .
Sorry for the poor drawing. It is hard to do well quickly with only paint. But I just want to help people visualize what I am saying.

I agree with your drawing about rounding off the rear. I still like the car in general but didn't realize it was $225K. Thought I heard $150 somewhere.
Oh well.

I've heard somewhere in $200K range. It's not an entry level Ferrari. Per Ferrari, they don't do entry level sports cars...their president has said "Used Ferraris are the entry level models."
Supposedly the F430 replacement will be moved up range, and the California will be their least expensive model.

Is that a 308 in your garage? If so, I think they are beautiful. I am too tall to drive them, but I have always appreciated the design. Very clean and strong.

Since I'd never be able to pony up for one, I wouldn't have wanted the comments I didn't post about its styling to sound like trailer-trash talk, but I have to second TD's WTFs. That gaggle of lines along the upper/center side would likely have gotten a first semester F at CCS or Art Center.

Thanks for the 308 design critique! It is a great car, that I never tire of looking at. The 997 will of course run rings around it, but the 308 is still special to drive. I lost interest in the current Ferrari designs...not that I'd turn down an F430 if it turned up in my garage. I think though that there is a cut and a paste/photoshop effect of the newer cars. Take the front of this, the door of that, the trunk of something else and put it together regardless of it making sense as a whole.
